Rebates are a form of sales promotion used by retailers and
manufacturers with the most common type being the Mail In Rebate
(MIR). Rebates require the purchaser to mail in a completed rebate
form, UPC or barcode from the item purchased along with the sales
receipt. In return the buyer will receive a rebate in the stated
amount via a check or pre-paid gift or debit card. Rebates are
usually processed by 'rebate centers' and rarely if ever by retailers
or manufacturers. Some retailers now offer the option of submitting
rebates online. Rebates may take some time and effort but are are
often a good way to save on purchases. When submitting rebate forms
it is a good idea to keep a log and copy/scan of all paperwork
submitted. A few ideas to have in mind when submitting rebates are:
-complete the forms/requirements immediately -carefully read the dates
and deadlines -follow the rebate instructions exactly -if the rebate
requires sending the original receipt and UPC, copy or scan the
originals beforehand -make note of the toll free number of rebate
processing center -honor the postmark by date -note length of time
expected for rebates processing -contact rebate center if you have
not received the rebate in 10 weeks. If you receive an email or
letter that the rebate has been denied and feel all the requirements
were met, resubmit everything with a letter of explanation. If the
rebate is again denied, consider contacting the retailer or
manufacturer. Stores that now offer the option of submitting rebates
online are: Apple, HP, Frys, Cisco, Ace Hardware (for reward
members), Sears, Staples and others. Epson allows customers to
pre-submit rebates only for products purchased through Epson. Stores
that have web pages devoted to printable MIR forms are: Home Depot,
Advanced Auto Parts, AJ Madison, Home Everything, Kitchen Aid,
Adorama, ecost, Guitar Center, Tiger Direct and others. Browse the
