Veterans Day in the U.S. is celebrated on November 11. This holiday was previously known as Armistice Day and was founded to honor Americans who had served in World War I. Veterans Day now honors all veterans, living or dead who served their country during peace or war. This is different from Memorial Day that honors those who died while in service to country. This day is commemorated with parades, placing flowers and flags at graves of veterans, flying of the U.S. flag and a host of other ceremonies . The Veterans Day National Ceremony takes place each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery . The ceremony is intended to honor and appreciate all who served in the United States Armed Forces.
