My ds LOVES money! LOL ( a little mommy brag)

My 4 year old loves everything about money.
He can tell you who is on the $1 and what is on the back. He can do this with a $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100! He does this without looking at the bill, he has is memorized! For example if you show him a $1 and ask what it is he will say...it's a one. Then when you ask who is on it he will say George Washington. Then when you ask what is on the back he will say an eye and an eagle! He knows the difference between the white house and independence hall and the lincoln memorial! I have NOT stressed him to learn these things. He just wants to know them. He also knows who is on a penny, nickel, dime and quarter, but he does'nt yet know the name of the coin or how much it is worth. This child loves to play with money. He has had several plastic cash registers with fake money. He has his own wallet that he carries around with him too. When he sees strangers he compares them to presidents! LOL Like when he sees someone who is almost bald he says that he looks like Ben Franklin! One day he said that someone looked like Washington but I don't remember why he said that one.
If you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up he says he wants to be a "cash register man" LOL....I guess that means a cashier :)
He is so bright when it comes to knowing money, but is showing little interest in knowing his numbers or letters. He knows all his colors but aside from money that is the only thing he has mastered.
Just wanted to brag a little :)

That is so neat!!! Woo hooo for him, he's doing better than some kids twice his age! Heck, I can't even tell you which face is on most bills!!! LOL.... Looks like you have a banker in the making!!!

LOL, that is cool!

My just turned 4 yr old threw away a $5 bill the other day that she got from someone for her birthday. She said she didn't want it anymore because it was wrinkled. Sooooo, we have a lot to work on at our house when it comes to money LOL.

That is very advanced for a four year old!

Maybe you can buy letters with money?

That's great! They're like little sponges when they're interested in something. I would use it to your advantage. Use coins and bills to teach letter and number recognition. Perhaps he'll be a banker some day!

That is cute, esp when he compares real people to the presidents!

This reminds me of a cute story my friend told me the other day. Her ds also loves money. He is 7 years old. She said he heard somewhere that you shouldn't work for money you should make money work for you. So now this is his ambition. Mind you, he is also very gifted. He reads at about a grade 7 level. Anyway, this summer at the beach, a wealthy American was camping beside them and he and her son were chatting for the longest time. Afterwards, he asked if it would be alright if he gave her son an American dollar bill. Her son went right to the store and bought a $1 ice cream. He came back thrilled with his ice cream and his .32c changed announcing that he knew what he wanted to be when he grew up...an American! Remember, we're from Canada...where the dollar is worth 68 cents! LOL

LOL, Joan. Do you remember the '80's sitcom Family Ties? This reminds me of a young version of the Michael J. Fox character.

That's great that he showed an interest like that. It's so nice to be able to follow their lead to teach them new things they want to know about! :)
