My youngest is starting preschool :(

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2003: My youngest is starting preschool :(
By Debbie on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 07:45 am:

I am so sad today. My oldest started full day kindergarten this week. Can't believe he is getting so big. It sure is quiet around here without him. He loves school though, which is great. My just turned 3 yr. old is not potty trained yet. I wanted to sign him up for the preschool that my oldest used, but you have to be potty trained. I never really checked into any others. However, yesterday my neighbor said that the school her son goes to has a young 3 yr old class that they don't have to be potty trained. It is suppose to be a great school, so we are going to check it out today. I am sure I will end up signing him up for 2 mornings a week. This will give me time to help out in Jordan's kindergarten class. Also, my youngest is so bored without brother home. I know it is a good decision, but I am still feeling sad :( URGGGGGGG, they grow up to fast.

Oh Debbie, I can completely understand. My daughter, who just turned 4 in July, will be starting preschool in Sept, after Labor Day. She will only go 3 days a week for 3 hrs a day. But, I felt sad the minute I signed her up.Im dreading the time Ihave to drop her off. She wont cry, but I will. :)

Another bittersweet moment - however, once you see how much they enjoy it and how much they learn, and then the things they bring home that they painted, or wrote, or made, you feel so happy for them, and so proud. Go ahead and cry moms, I did, every time!!

Sometimes, I think school days are harder on most moms than the kids! :)

(((hugs))) I'm right there with you. My oldest DD just started kindergarten, and my youngest DD is starting preschool in 2 weeks. Everyone says once they start school, the next thing you know you're at their HS graduation :(

By Karen55 on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 06:44 pm:

Robin, my last one just graduated from high school in May. I cried like a baby, I mean I was standing there sobbing and just could not stop. I have cried every time they started a new school and moved up from one school to another. I guess I'm just a crybaby, huh? crying

Nope Karen you are a mom.

I have cried the first day of school every year for the past 10 years. Preschool, Kindergarden 1st through 8th. And I cried when I switched Callie mid year to a new school in 8th. It is scary. You want the best for them but you are so afraid of what you know they are up against.
Callie will be attending a newly built high school this year. She will be one of the first classes to attend all four years and graduate from this school. As it stands right now the student body at this school is 1,299 Callie makes it 1,300. This place is huge....... It looks like a Mall inside. You should see this place. Her classes are all over the place... She is in for major culture shock and Boy am I a mess about all of this... So will I cry when I drop her off you bet your life. Those kids will eat my quiet backwards baby alive....

Dill is going to Jr high so I am stressed about that... So I will have two good cries that day. And my babies will be in first grade. I might as well take some of Robs meds.. I am going to be a wreck.

Well, good to hear I am not the only one with the start of school blues :) I did end up registering him. I thought he would start after labor day, but they actually start this Monday. My oldest ds has always been so independent and not really the snuggly type. However, my youngest is such a momma's boy. I guess this makes me more apprehensive. However, he is so outgoing and loves people, so I know he will love it. Be prepared, everyone will probably hear me crying come Monday morning.

I guess as moms we all feel the same. I think on Wednesday when my first born starts school for his senior year, I to will be teary eyed. Bittersweet moments.:(
They grow way to fast!!

I know how you all feel. I was so nervous about my dd started preschool last year when she was three. I don't know why, she is not a shy kid at all! She just marched in there and didn't even turn back to give me a kiss! She was more ready then i was. After that first day, i was fine and happy to release her for 2 hours 2 days a week! LOL! I am not worried at all about her starting her 4 year old class in a couple weeks. She is very excited about it too! But, i know next year when she starts kindergarden, it will be a whole different story. At the school she will go to, the student body stands in the hall and "claps in" the kindergardeners while they walk down the hall on the first day of school. You KNOW i will be balling then! They also do a "clap out" for the fifth graders going to middle school.

Wishing you a joyful Monday, Debbie. How's your Kindergartner liking school? I bet your younger one will be excited to be going to "school" just like big brother.

Dana,

Jordan loves school!!! He thinks he is really BIG now that he is in K. He got a great teacher that we really like. It is just a bit of an adjustment going from 1/2 day preschool to all day K. He was pretty worn out by the end of the week. He has always loved school and being around his friends. Thanks for asking about him.

How is your dd doing with kindergarten???

By Dana on Sunday, August 24, 2003 - 08:25 am:

DD is doing GREAT! in school!!! I am so pleased with the changes that are already occuring with her.

I love the school and teacher. This is DDs first experience in a school, so I was quite nervous. Luckily, we found a weekly summer camp that she attended a few weeks during the summer. Lots of tears during that transition, but not a tear going to school :). The most difficult change is the hour we wake to get to school. We leave our house at 7AM! OMG, we used to have problems getting somewhere by 9:30 LOL. Both DD and myself are asleep so early each night (poor DH, a big adjustment).

Because of the early start time, DD is home by 2PM. That gives her the rest of the afternoon! And she is wonderful! SHe just plays all by herself, so well behaved. And when it is time to clean up, she does!!! I just love Kindergarten LOL. As I tell her "it just fills me with joy, to see you loving to learn". I am in heaven watching her grow up and develope. It really is joyful. I hope her entire school life is as good as this.

So how did your first days turn out w/ your other child?
