Is your dks involved in any?

My ds has been playing youth basketball for 4 yrs now and he loves it. On Monday, he is starting football for the first year. He is a little worried about it, but I think he will love it. I am so excited about it.

DD started cheerleading for basketball last year and she just loved it. Now she will be cheering for flag football and she cant wait.

I was also thinking of dance for her, but I think I will wait till she is a little less shy before I invest in that.

Mine were very involved in stuff when they were young. Jeff played T-ball, then coach pitch, then little league ball for years. Kept us quite busy since they practiced several days a week in addition to the games. Once he really got into guitar, he left baseball behind, and took guitar lessons every week.

Jen took dance classes - at one point she was taking classes 4 days a week; tapp/jazz, ballet, pointe, tumbling and a competition class. Honestly that was too much, and she got burned out on it.

I always tried to teach mine that once they started something, they had an obligation to see it through. HOWEVER - I did make an exception once with Jeff when he tried football, and he absolutely hated it and kept getting hurt, so I let him quit.

And another thing to be aware of is, don't push your kids into a particular activity because *you* want them to do it. It will become a nightmare for both of you.

My 8-year-old son is not a organized sports kid. We tried basketball in 1st grade and he hated it. I wasn't too impressed with how the parents acted at the games and it made me glad I never put him into soccer at age 4 like everyone else. He would not have been able to handle all those people screaming at him season after season sport after sport.

He does like nature stuff, rock climbing, swimming, video games, legos, so he does have interests.

Both play soccer and baseball. My younger son will be going to a roller hockey camp this week to see how he likes it. If he does, we will sign him up for that as well.

My 6 year old does karate and swimming. We've tried others but they don't work for him (he has lots of issues). Both of these sports were recommended by his OT as "proprioceptive centering activities." They totally are! He may do the swim team this winter, but we're still deciding. He did do it this summer.

Timmy does soccer 2 seasons a year. From April until July and August until October. This will be his 4th season. He loves it. Next spring he wants to play t-ball so he will have to pick between the 2.

My DS who is 17 has played fall soccer for 10 years. He is on the varsity soccer team for his highschool. This will be his last year of highschool soccer:( But is looking into colleges that have soccer teams.
DS who is 8 has been playing fall soccer for 4 years and loves it. Also does little league baseball in the summer.
I LOVE being a soccer mom:)
