Another school question

LOL, okay one more.

When do you find out who your child will have for a teacher? I remember as a kid finding out on the last day of school for the next school year. My kids don't find out until 1 or 2 days before school starts. I find that very frustrating. Next year my younger son could have the same teacher he had last year and be in a K-1 or a straight 1 and be on the upper campus. Or he could be in a 1 or 1-2 and be down on the lower campus with all the older kids. (Only k and sometimes 1 are on the upper campus). My older son could end up in a 1-2 class or a 2-3 class or a second grader in the third grade class. It would be nice to have some notice so I know what to prepare my kids for. The school is so small that the make-up of the classes changes from year to year, so it's impossible to guess what teacher will be teaching what grade. Ugh!

So when do you find out?

My son always had found out the last day of school. Where he goes, they hand out the report cards and in there it tells them what classroom/teacher they will have for the following school yr.

I get to pick for my youngest because I work at the school :0)(another benefit!!) but usually they find out on the last day of school this year, however, due to massive budget cuts they weren't sure if they were laying teachers off in certain grades so no one knows until 8/20. We go back 8/28.

We just found out today! I'm SO happy because DD got the same Kindergarten teacher DS had. We LOVE her!! She's already on top of the nut allergy and is very much like me, teacher wise. LOL! DS got a teacher new to the district this year, so I'm a little anxious about that. He will be the first male teacher DS has had. I'm *hoping* it's a good match. We'll see! So far I've been very happy with all the staff members at our school.

We find out the Friday before school starts. Thats interesting that your schools tell you the last day of school. I wish ours did.

My 6th grader finds out his 'schedule' on the Thursday before school. This is new to us this yr. He is really exciting and I am really nervous. LOL

WEll, since this is K, you don't find out until the first day which is orientation. However, because I requested a certain teacher and I asked the other day when I dropped off some paperwork, I found out we got our request.

However, when I first asked she said "we don't give that out until orientation" Then she saw I had a request and told me I got it.

We don't find out until meet the teacher night which is on Thursday the 14th. School starts the next week on Monday the 16th. Ds is in K and I have heard that all the K teachers at his school are wonderful. Sure hope this is true.

Our school posts all the classes on the building's doors on Labor Day weekend before school starts. I find it helpful as I can see who else is in my children's classes. They get really happy when they find out their friends are with them.

Our school system mails it to you, supposedly a week before school starts, but most times my kids got their letters 1 or 2 days before the first day of school. The high school mails it earlier in the summer, and there are specified times and days for each grade level to pick up their books, take their ID pics and pay their fees prior to the first day of school.

On a few occasions when my kids were in the elementary grades I requested a specific teacher, and started my letter writing campaign before the end of the school year to get the teacher I wanted for my kids for the coming school year. When I did that, I found out earlier than everyone else.

My kids go back next Thursday, the 6th and they found out yesterday through the mail. I requested three teachers for my three elementary school kids. We got two out of three.
We go to orientation the day before and can drop off their school supplies.
My DD going into the 7th grade (OMG!!!!) got her homeroom teacher notice in the mail a few days ago and will get her schedule during homeroom period.

We found out DS's teacher the Monday after school let out, but the Kindergarteners have to wait until three weeks before school starts (don't know why?).

When I was in school, we usually found out a couple weeks before school started. Being a major bookworm and school lover, it was torture to wait ALL summer long to find out who my new teacher would be!! :)

My kids aren't in elementary school anymore, but they usually found out when we went to register for the new school year a few weeks before school started.

11yo will find out what team she is on for middle school next Wednesday when we register for school.

I think 14yo will find out her teachers for high school on the same day. Not that we even know who the high school teachers are! LOL! Except for the band teacher. We know who he is!

We just found out last week and they start next Wed. Not a lot of time, but oh well. When I was in school there was only one of each grade so it was a given who your next teacher was. (I was from a really small town :) ) Here my kids school has six of each grade!!! They're expecting an enrollment of over 700 kids for K-5 this year. When the school opened three years ago there were 230 kids. WOW! :)

We find out the Thursday before school starts on Monday. I hate it because I sweat it out all summer on whether or not my dks get the teachers we requested.

By Mommmie on Friday, August 1, 2003 - 11:44 pm:

Up until last year the public elementary posted all the classes/teachers the Friday before school started at 4:30 when all the school personnel had left for the day. One teacher told me it's bec there are so many mad parents. The school does not take any teacher requests from anybody for any reason.

Now, due to privacy concerns, they mail a postcard to every one the week before school starts telling them who their teacher will be.

The private school my son goes to tells parents at Parent Orientation who the kid will have IF they've paid their tuition in full. Orientation is a week before school starts and is also an opportunity to meet the assigned teacher. Kids are not allowed at Orientation.

The school posts the teachers here on August 18th. School starts, I think, on the 26th.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, August 2, 2003 - 02:03 am:

My elementary school would post lists of the classes. So, you would know who was in your class, too, along with the teacher. Sadly, no one is in elementary school anymore.

By Marcia on Saturday, August 2, 2003 - 08:31 pm:

We can check the list the week before school starts. It's all posted in the front foyer of the school.

Like COlette, I know because I work there (and I actually worked on the placement because I was a K teacher and ds is going into first) but he has lots of issues so the principal actually asked me what I thought about her idea for him. I didn't tell him though, because that would not be fair to his friends as they don't know (but i know that too!) It's usually a week before , but we've had cases where they've sent the letters out and they had to change the placement due to enrolment changes. I had two families one year lobbying for me (they were originally placed in my class and then switched to the new teacher. We didnt' even have lists (2 days before school started) and they came and introduced themselves and their kids. They told me they were in my class. I wxplained that I didn't even know and were they sure because of what was going on. HTey said yes and so I innocently gave them a tour. Then the principal told me that they were absolutely NOT in my class. They told her they had to stay because their kids had now met the teacher. It was really ugly. THe principal reluctantly let them stay because the kids were involved, but she made the moms hold out until the night before school started. They turned out to be great kids/families!
