Baby gyms?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2003: Baby gyms?

Hi,

I am new to this board, and I am hoping someone can help me. I have a 11 month old son and I am thinking about maybe enrolling him into one of the baby gym places like gymboree or the little gym. He is our first child and I think it would be good for him to see other kids ect. Does anyone or has anyone had experince with these places? Its pretty pricey and I don't want to waste my $$. Thanks sooo much for you input!

I have never taken a gymboree class though I hear that they are great. I do have my baby (17 months)in a parent/tot gymnastics class at the local YMCA twice a week - she LOVES it! It is also very affordable.

BTW Welcome to momsview!

Welcome to momsview!

I think the baby gym classes sound like a great idea. It's good for little kids to be around others so they can learn how to share, wait their turn, and have fun! I wish we had something like that here. Maybe you could ask if they offer a trial membership that is just for a month or two. That way you will know if you and your DS like it before you by a regular membership.

Let us know if you try it and like it!

First of all, welcome to Momsview. I have done both Gymboree and Little Gym. My first ds loved Gymboree. I started when he was 9 months and continued going until he was about 2-1/2. With my 2nd ds we did Little Gym. Unfortunately, it ended up to be a big waste of money. He liked it in the beginning, but then stopped wanting to go. I really wished I had done Gymboree with him too. You can take a trial class at both places and see if you like them before you join. I found that Gymboree had more music and changed things up more each week. Little Gym did change things around some, but it seemed to be mostly the same thing each week. I think my ds got bored with it after awhile and that is when he didn't want to go anymore.

Good luck with finding a place.

I too brought my son to Gymboree. They let us come for one day for free, to check it out. He loved it, so i signed him up. Like Debbie says, they change things around every week. They play music, sing songs and do the parachute at the end of each class (that's what they did at the one i went to, don't know if it is the same everywhere). And BTW, it was VERY clean! I agree that it is pretty pricey, but it was worth it. My son loved going there every week! It was a great thing to do during the winter months to get out of the house. I am bummed that the owner of the frachise near us sold it!
