Portable bottle warmers.

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2003: Portable bottle warmers.

Ok, with #2 on the way I keep remembering the most frustrating thing about taking DD out when she was little. She wanted to eat every hour and a half or so. She ate exclusively breast milk, which I obviously don't produce, so it had to be cooled and heated. The cooling part I can handle. it's the portable heating part. The car-heater I had sucked. I mean it really didn't work. It was faster to just go find a source of hot water and run the bottle under it until the milk was warm. Let me tell you how much fun it is to have a 3 month old screaming in a mens room (great acoustics) while you try to warm a bottle for about 15 minutes.
Anyone have any luck with portable bottle warmers? I can find 4 basic kinds. The first is the ones that plug into the car and have a big wide strap that wraps completely around the bottle. That's the one I have and it sucks, I threw it away. Second is one that plugs into the car but uses steam like my normal house bottle warmer. Third is a butane model. Fourth is the gel pack that gets hot when you activate it. I really don't want to be stuck at home so much this time, forced to make dashes out between feeding for the first 4 months.
Any suggestions?
Boobs are so handy sometimes, I'm jealous. :)

Here is a link to one that I like. Haven't used it, but this is the one I am going to get for baby 3 just in case I need to use bottles.

I have no experience with bottle warmers, but wanted to tell you this made me smile. grin

Yes, boobs are handy! LOL! I have a cute little icon that would be perfect for this but I fear it's too risque. *EG*

I also had the bottle warmer you threw away. It was useless! Hmm, not sure what to suggest. My youngest would NOT take anything else other than the real thing so I can't help you there. The gel packs would be worth giving a try. Let us know if you come up with anything.

We have a bottle warmer that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It was just one we bought at K-mart. I don't even know the brand of it. It is in the shape of a bottle. The top unzips and you put the bottle down inside and zip it up and plug it in. We only used it several times, but it worked better than the other alternatives (running the bottles under hot water etc.)

Something to think about : Buy a power inverter. I think that's what they are called. We have a small one that my DH bought for work to hook up his stereo in his UPS truck. We use that thing for everything! We would pack along the regular bottle warmer and just plugged it in and used it whenever necessary. Home bottle warmers are so much nicer and more efficient than travel ones. It also works great for curling irons in the car. Like, if your going for family pictures and your DD messes her hair up before you get there. Just plug in the curling iron and your set! Anyway, that's my favorite thing to use for everything!! Including bottle warmers :) We rarely used our bottle warmer at home. We used it more in the car than anywhere.
