Tablet computers (or just Tablets) are computing devices that are controlled by a touchscreen. There are 3 popular types of tablet computers in use today.
The first is the venerable iPad, the device which essentially gave birth to the Tablet computer craze. Currently in its 3rd generation, the Ipad offers music, Internet browsing,
and the huge library of applications available from the Apple store. The Ipad is essentially a large format iPhone but without the phone dialing functions.
Google realized the importance of this market and invented the second most common tablet, the Android (or Droid). Google does not manufacture these devices
but instead chose to license the technology to other manufacturers including Samsung. The third type of tablet is the Tablet PC running the Windows (commonly Windows 7) operating system.
These are also manufactured by companies other than Microsoft, including HP, Acer and others.
When choosing a tablet, carefully consider the intended purpose. If you need to exchange files and work on content from PC applications, only a Tablet PC
will fit your requirements. If your primary system is a Mac, then the Ipad will provide the best compatibility with your workflow. If cost is the primary consideration,
Droid tablets are significantly less expensive than other options.
