Notebooks have become the preferred computer for people on the go. When shopping for a notebook there are several factors to consider to make sure
you get a notebook computer that meets your needs:
Applications: Make sure that the Notebook you purchase can run the applications you want to use at an adequate level of performance. The primary
factors that determine a Notebook's performance are in order: the speed of the CPU, the amount of memory in the Notebook and the speed of the harddrive.
Weight: When travelling extensively, every ounce of weight that you must carry through airports and to meetings makes a big difference. In general, the
lighter the Notebook, the lower the performance level, so make sure it can run your desired applications (see above).
Battery Life: If you need to use your Notebook on long airline flights, try to find a Notebook with a long battery life. Battery life will also impact
the weight of the Notebook so you must consider the tradeoff.
DVD or Bluray: If you need to play DVDs or BluRays in your Notebook on a regular basis this will severely impact the Battery Life and Weight. Consider converting movies to
files that will reside on the Notebook drive:
Operating System: Macs and Windows based Notebooks are the most popular choices. In general, Windows based Notebook computers are significantly cheaper than
Apple Notebooks but will require much more effort to keep them secure from viruses and hackers. Take the time to identify the most common tasks you need
to perform and ask store employees to suggest applications to perform those tasks.
