Kids and Gardening in January

Moms View Message Board: Boredom Busters: Kids and Gardening in January

Gardening in Winter. My kids love growing things. Its always fun to see things sprout but the Kids and Gardening Newsletter actually helps you to start real gardening with kids while there is still snow on the ground. Check out their Family Corner. For winter they have a cool activity called Garbage Pail Gardening using foods you already have in your kitchen (e.g. carrots, potatoes, onions, citrus).

THe National Gardening Association does this monthly on-line newletter for educators, families and community gardens Click on: http://www.kidsgardening.org.

If you have done things like this in the winter or have other cool sites or activities that help you have a green thumb year round - please post

Happy winter gardening.

We've collected seeds from all kinds of fruits and vegetables over the past couple of months. I saw the starter pots and seeds in the hardware store so I know the little guy and I need to start planting soon. For the most part I've done flowers in the past. I really want to do more fruits and veggies this year with an eye toward canning. The economy's got me thinking in terms of the old victory garden and the greenpeople are encouraging local growing to reduce fuel consumption.

Anyone else have an eye toward gardening this spring?
