I can't sleep...is anyone still up?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2007: I can't sleep...is anyone still up?
By Wandilu on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 - 02:39 am:

I am miserable! I went to bed over 2 hrs ago,but I am back up.I have fibromyalgia really bad, and one of my worst problems with it is sleep.I have to take something to make me sleep;I can't go to bed too early, and I especially can't go to bed too late.I can't do anything very active , such as go to a party and dance, or go to a late movie ,because it will literally take hours for me to settle down (in my brain as well as my body)and go to sleep.Tonight ,we had a skating party for 2 of my DGK's,so there was a total of 6 of them there, plus tons of other people. It was so much fun.I didn't skate, but I walked around on the rink and played with them.It was great. But,here I am at almost 2AM (my time),WIDE AWAKE! And when I finally go to sleep,I will sleep till almost noon!Plus our air conditioning is broke, and it is miserablly hot !!And we have no ice for icewater!!Boy,I sound like a whiny-butt !!!!So,I just thought I would see if anyone else is up.

Sorry you feel so badly. (((hugs))) I've heard that fibromyalgia is painful. I hope you will eventually get some rest. The skating party does sound fun. I'm glad everyone had a great time. I know what it's like not to have air conditioning. Up until last year, we only had window units. I hope you can get it fixed soon.

I'm so sorry. There is nothing worse, than not being able to sleep.

I don't have fibromyalgia or any other good reason that I was still awake. I was exhausted at 6:30 pm b/c I hadn't slept well the night before. Could have gone to sleep then, but dd still had to get a bath and wanted to work on a bunny Easter decoration we found in a mag. So I get her to bed at 8:30 pm and dh wants me to watch a movie with him. So we curl up on the couch and watch. Finally I get to bed at 10:30 pm and lay there for 2 hours. Then I got up and lay on the couch for 2 hours. I took some Nyquil at 1 am and finally got my nose unstuffed and got sleepy. But I got back in bed and only sort of slept. I should have gotten on the computer and chatted with you.

But I don't have the luxury of sleeping until noon. I had to take dd to school at 7:30 am so I'm awake now and feeling crappy.

Hope you do better at sleeping tonight.

No help here, but I do understand. I have FM too, and one of the main issues with that is sleeping disorders. You get into a viscious cycle, no sleep = more pain; you are totally exhausted and then more pain = no sleep. You need good, restorative sleep for your body to mend itself.

I have a sound machine with 20 different soothing sounds. Sometimes that helps. You have to be able to *turn your mind off*. Deep, slow breathing sometimes helps. Meditation, etc. helps too. Nothing is guaranteed to work *all* of the time, but those are a few things you can do to help you relax so you can sleep.

Hope tonight is better for you.
