Welcome home ideas? :)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2007: Welcome home ideas? :)

As you guys well know by now, Scott is coming home in TWO WEEKS! YEAH! It kind of snuck up on me so I'm exercising like crazy and asking all these tanning questions...LOL :) I'm as white as a ghost and living off of cottage cheese and protein shakes. Ok, I'm exaggerating (a bit).

Anyway...I just ordered a banner for Scott when he arrives at the Green Ramp at Ft. Bragg, NC. I want him to see exactly where we are amongst the other families and I will also have balloons. I was thinking of having cute T-shirts made for the family (his parents and their SO's will be there too) or hats that had a picture of him and Connor, with a saying on them.

Any fun welcome home ideas?? I wanted to get something for his parents and their SO's to remember the occasion and look back on it, etc.

OMGosh! 2 weeks???! Wow, I can't believe it's that time already. I'll bet you are ecstatic!!

T-shirts are a cute a idea :) You can have a cute saying embroidered on them. If you stand in a line side by side, each shirt could have one word on it, and create a sentence when all lined up.

I would definitely decorate the yard so that EVERYONE knows he is home. Lots of yellow ribbons and welcome home signs.

Maybe some sort of pin/badge for everyone to wear? That is small enough that it can be tucked away in a memory box and kept for years to come.

SO excited for you!!

I LOVE the t-shirt idea! I'd go with that.

I thought of something that could be quite sentimental.
What if you made a slideshow, set to music. Have pics of you, Connor and him together. Maybe some other family members together. All of this BEFORE he left. Then have pics of him as you are all saying goodbye, then of him and his unit while in service. Pics of Connor writing "letters" to daddy. I remember you posted a pic of Connor praying; that would be awesome to have on there. Have some patriotic songs playing during this part. Maybe "Proud To Be An American" for the final song with some really great pics of him in uniform. Then at the end you can put a welcome home message on the screen. That would be a really great thing for Connor to have/see when he gets older. Kind of a recap of the past 18months (18 months is right...isn't it?).

I like the T shirts.. My sister is having ones made up for Callie for the Shining Stars thing.. Mom of a Star, Aunt of a Star...etc printed on the back..

I also like the banner idea and the decorating the yard... The move would be a great idea too...

First- congratulations!!! How exciting for all of you. Before my neighbor's son came home from the ME all the neighbors got together and made yellow bows to put on our mailboxes. He loved them. This was 10 months ago and we all still have them up. If you're close to your neighbors that's always an idea.
