How to publish a book??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2007: How to publish a book??
By Mara on Sunday, March 11, 2007 - 12:33 pm:

I just started writing a book about 2 weeks ago. I've never wrote a book before, I've wrote lots of poems. I've had poems in the paper, a poem of mine was read to the student body at my prom, I went to young authors in school for a book of poems, and I have a poem in a hardcover coffe table book. Those are some of my accomplishments, does'nt sound like much...I know :)
Anyway, my book is fiction, and a thriller. I'm only on chapter 2. I've let several people read the first chapter and everyone said it was pretty good. Everyone keeps asking to read the next chapter, but I'm not letting anyone read any more of it until I'm done.. I tell them the first chapter was just a teaser! Of course I let my dh read everything, I have to get opinions somewhere...Back to my question, how do I go about getting my book out there when it is complete? I've looked at some sites online, but I don't know who to trust. Anyone published a story? Any ideas??

You could try Lulu.com. The woman who publishes the math curriculum we now use (mathmammoth.com - it's fantastic stuff) publishs her hardcopy texts through that site (though we bought ours in PDF download form). It offers Print On Demand so you don't pay for a print run. If someone orders one of your books, they print and send out just one copy. you still retain all your rights and have complete control in the design.

No clue... but giving you a bump back to the top...

Oh by the way.. Your poems beats my accomplishments hands down. So take pride in them...

Absolutely be proud of your accomplishments!! I ,also want to get a book published, but thats about as far as I've gone with it :). There was a guy on tv a while back that wrote a mystery, and he put one chapter at a time on the internet( but I don't have a clue as to where, and what site, etc)and people would have to pay to read the next chapter. He had actually taken his novel to several publishers and they turned him down. So, some how he came up with this idea and literally made a fortune off of it !! He then had some of the best know publishers get in contact with him to try and publish it, and he said no! I saw him on tv talking about it.
