Heelys

Do any of your kids have Heely 's? There are so many kids around here that have them. I think it would be fun for my kids to have them too. But i have looked online at them and they are like $60 or so dollars. I just don't see spending that much on a kids pair of shoes when they grow out of them so fast.

If your kids have them, where did you get them and were they less than $60??

thanks

Both kids have them and both pairs cost MORE than $60. We bought them at the mall. IF you buy them make sure you order at least 1 size bigger. They runner smaller than regular shoes.

My kids both have them, but we didn't pay that much because we got them at the base exchange on sale. I think we paid about $40 for each pair. Robin wears his all the time, but he hasn't had the wheels in them for a couple months. Randy wore his for about a week and that was it. They're not allowed to use them at school and I won't let them use them in stores or other public places (where there are crowds). I'm hoping they'll get more use when the snow melts! lol Robin did fall a couple of times when learning to use them. If you really want to get them for you kiddos, check eBay. There are people that sell new pairs on there for less than retail.

I personally find them annoying when the kids use them in stores & such!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 01:28 pm:

They are banned in some stores and in the schools here. If you have them on at school, they take your wheels and make mom/dad come pick them up. If you get caught with them in again detention etc..

They are the thing around here too and I told the girls no, period.

My daughter doesnt' have them yet, but her aunt is gettign her some, an dwhen we looked at them in the store they where cheaper then 60( not sure if it was becaue of her size or not)dollars. we looked at them in Show City. I doubt it but not really sure if they have it in Ohio. I've never seen a web site for them they have commercials on tv and if you hanv'et seen them then they dont have it in your area. But you can google and see if theyhave a web site or not. It'a a sote just like foot locker, but they are just not that mainstream.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 02:09 pm:

No, i've never heard of Show City.

I'm sure they are not allowed at school, could you imagine if all the kids wore them to school? what a mess that would be!

The first time i saw someone with them on was my neighbors son gliding down the driveway somehow. I looked at him and said "how'd you do that?" LOL

It does annoy me if kids use them in busy stores.

I've been wondering how they figure out how to do it. It looks kind of complicated. Knowing my kids, they would fall down a few times and then decide that they don't want the Heely's anymore :)
thanks for the input ladies!

My son just got them for Christmas. He mostly only wears one wheel, because his balance isn't that good..LOL. They are allowed at school during recess here, so my son packs his wheels with him. And I think his were about 50 at academy. My son is in 5th grade, we bought him a full size bigger than his normal shoe size, turn out they fit me, so if he outgrows them before he out wears them I have heelys.

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 02:53 pm:

My ds wants them, too, but they don't allow them at school here either, and I simply will not spend money on shoes he cannot wear to school. Shoes are expensive enough as it is.

We bought them when they first became popular. Perhaps they have gone down in price?
Kaye--have you tried the Heelys? My son's pair fit me and I have yet to master them. They are a bit tricky! I have no problem rollerblading but these are an entirely different concept.

My ds got a pair for Christmas. It was one of the only things he asked for. Yes, buy them big, they run small. My ds can't wear them to school, but he still wears them a lot. I want to say, I paid around $60.00 for them.

By Conni on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 04:14 pm:

My ds (6) has them. Thats the ONLY thing he asked for, for Christmas. I was a little shocked about that. lol We bought one size bigger. They had them at the mall here. I think we paid $80 or $90 but we pay extra for everything here. :) If I had ordered them online and had them shipped it would have cost me the same I think.

He takes his wheels out when going to school and then if we go somewhere after school or on the weekend he puts the wheels back in.

By Breann on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 05:22 pm:

My kids have them as well. They were just over $50. They don't wear them at school. Just at home and on weekends. My 4 year old is actually better on them than my 7 year old :)

By Kaye on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 05:25 pm:

I did try them, I haven't mastered it either. Really my son's one wheel trick is pretty good for training, he uses his like a scooter :)

By Cybermommyx4 on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 11:47 pm:

Isn't it dangerous to use them when they aren't also wearing protective gear (in case they fall and hit their head, etc.)??

By Paulas on Friday, January 26, 2007 - 08:57 pm:

I personally think they are an accident waiting to happen. So, unless my kids decide they want to wear a helmet around...they won't be getting them.

By Kaye on Friday, January 26, 2007 - 11:13 pm:

With the heelys, My guess is accidents aren't as likely as skates, because the braking so easy. You don't have to put your toe down, or your heel, you just stand. So the wheels don't come out from under you, like they do on skates. It is actually quite a trick to stay balanced on them and skate down a hall, but balance isn't quite right, you don't feel like you are going to fall as much as you can't hold your leg right to make the wheel move freely, does that make sense? Heelys only have 1 wheel on the back of each shoe, they don't retract, but they only stick out about an inch. So to skate you have to put your weight on the back of your feet and flex your foot.
