Okay, I just registered for my second race. My goal is to run the whole thing. It's on April 1st so I still have time to train.
My trainer is helping me get ready for it so we shall see.:)

Good Job Andi, I just did the PFChangs 1/2 marathon in Phoenix 50,000 people and 40 bands kept me going:)

I committed to our local running club for the year, the first event is on the 27th a 5k (most are) and I have injured my foot, so I'm very discouraged, but hopeful I can recoup enough to keep up with my goal of doing one race a month!

Are you training to compete or participate? I'm a participator for sure:)

Good job, Andi! Kym, I'm sorry you hurt your foot.

Congratulations! Can you give me some advice- I've been running off and on for a few years, but since May have been pretty regular with it. I've always wondered if I should pursue a 5 or 10K. Since I'm a SAHM it would be something I could do for me. Anyway....how many days a week do you train? How fast of a mile do you need to run to be "average" in the races? I realize you tend to run faster than your typical time during a race. How long do you train for your races? How far do you typically run when training? I obviously wouldn't be looking to compete, just participate. What did you like about your first race? I guess I'm trying to get a feel for the time commitment for training to see if it's something I'd like to pursue. Advice from anyone is very welcome. Thanks so much!!

Jen- Thanks for asking those questions! I can benefit from all of them, too. I've only been running for maybe 6mths. so I feel like quite the newbie to it and I have no idea if I'm capable of participating in a race or not.

There is a great website called www.coolrunning.com. If you go under the training section, it has training programs for 5k-marathons. I did their couch potato to 5k training program last fall. Unfortunately, I got up to running 2.5 miles, and then got really sick 2 weeks before my run. But, I will be doing one in the Spring.

And Andi, I think it is great that you are doing another race. I am jealous that you have a trainer. I may have to look into that for myself.

Kym, I hope your foot heals quickly. My goal, starting this spring, is to run a 5k ever couple of months.

Hey runner gals, another great program I've started using is ChiRunning, they have a video and book and website www.chirunning.com

I really like this "form"

Well let me start by saying...I am SOOOOOO not a runner. I am slow and I walk/run. LOL That is what we are woring on now at the gym. My trainer is building up my endurance so I can run for a longer amount of time. I also need to work on my breathing. I breath way to fast and feel like I am going to pass out.

Jen my advise to you is...DO IT! It is such a great feeling to do something for yourself and focus on you for a while. Being a SAHM is very draining and I love the 60-80 minutes a day I get to myself in the gym.

Keep us posted and let us know how it goes. Kym, so sorry about your foot. That is such a bummer, especially when you found something you enjoy so much. Hope you heal fast!

Thank you so much for the advice! Debbie I love the website. It was exactly what I was looking for. Andi- thank you for the motivation. I think I'm in pretty good shape to run it- I just need to get to the gym another day or so a week (easier said than done these days!) and keep motivated.

Here is my question.....How am I suppose to train and loose weight when I just bought 4 boxes of GS Cookies? LOL:)
