Washer Dryer Combo. has anyone heard of this?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Washer Dryer Combo. has anyone heard of this?

I was looking for apartment size w/d and found this. Then I did a google on "washer dryer combo" and found a few listings.

Does anyone get consumer reports? Any word from them?

I don't even know how long they have been in existance.

In short, it washes and dryes in the same machine, can connect right to your kitchen sink (or a regular water hookup if you want), and it looks like it uses regular house electric outlet.

This is what my sister used while living in London last year. It was installed under the kitchen counter, much like a dishwasher. She loved it for the most part. She did say that her's didn't dry very well but they took their clothes to the neighbor across the hall whose machine dried just fine. I don't have any idea what brand it was or how common they are here in the States.

They are common here is the states in a motorhome. I have seen them in many and they can be very pricey.

My brother had one when he lived in London. He said his didn't work very well either. Just like Tink's sisters, it took forever for his clothes to dry.

Hmmm. I wonder if their slow drying time was due to the humidity as well.

If anyone has Consumer Reports I would love to hear what they say. Maybe I can find this at the library.

I did a little research on Amazon and I wouldn't recommend them if it's for your family of four. They pretty much say it takes forever to dry and even then the clothes feel damp. They say the clothes come out more wrinkled than normal, too. Also, a larger drum is needed for drying than washing, so the washing capacity is quite huge, but to DRY that same amount in that same drum is very difficult. So you have to put in SMALL loads, despite how large the drum is for washing. Do you know what I'm saying? Picture your current machines...the washing machine has a much smaller drum than your dryer, right? Even tho the dryer has a large drum, it's meant to go with normal sized washer drums because you need a larger drum to dry than to wash. But because the combo HAS to have the large drum for the drying portion, people just go ahead and fill up the drum with a ton of clothes since they all fit, but then when they begin the drying portion there are WAY too many clothes for that sized drum. One review of a high quality one said it takes up to six hours to do ONE load.
