Custom made drapes? Where to go?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Custom made drapes? Where to go?

Just wondering if anyone has had drapes made before? I'm wondering how much it is going to cost and where the best deal can be found? I'm also wondering if I am brave enough to do them myself. I just don't know where I could find the time to line and make pinch pleat drapes. Uggh! Any adivce would be wonderful. Thanks.:)

We had some made when working with an interior designer. They were pricey, though I don't recall now just how much. I know that our cost was increased because of the heavy duty lining we had to put in because of the intense sunlight that comes through our windows on that side of the house.

I would suggest asking at a fabric store. I am sure they have contacts they could refer you to.

THanks, Melanie. Yes, my aunt said they could run around $200 a window plus the cost of fabric. I'm hoping I can find someone or else give it a shot myself. And I remember your shades--they look great!

Smith and Noble makes custom drapes. They have a website, www.smithnoble.com. I bought some natural woven shades from them, and I love them. They also make curtains, and have LOTS of fabrics to choice from. They will send you free swatches. Our shades were pretty expensive, but we have huge windows, 42x94, it was around $200.00 a window.

Thanks, Debbie. That is a nice sight. I'll have to browse through today. Although, I think for the cost, I'm going to have to figure out how to make them myself.;)
