Herbal Hair Rinse

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Herbal Hair Rinse

I just read about an herbal hair rinse, basically you rinse your hair with a sort of rosemary herbal tea. Has anyone heard of this? What is it supposed to do? I'm looking into doing things to pamper myself at home, and this was one of the things. Has anyone tried anything like this before?

I've never heard of this but it sounds luscious! I'd love to try it too!

I found a great website called pioneer thinking.com It gives you many homemade ideas to pamper yourself.

That is a neat site! Yes, rosemary is an herb that you can steep into a tea and pour through your hair. It gives it shine and body, and also relieves dry scalp. I actually have a cookbook/household hints/beauty book from the early 20th century. It belonged to my Grandma. I remember reading about that when I was a teenager.

You can also rinse your hair in vinegar /water mixture.I used to do that all the time as a young teenager. It makes your hair very shiny, and might even help with dandruff or dry scalp. One of the best things you can do is put a small jar of mayo ( not salad dressing ) on your hair and then wrap it in plastic wrap (saran wrap )for an hour. A school mate of mine did this to her hair once a week and she had the most beautiful hair in the whole school.

Wanda - You are so right on both counts. The acid in the vinegar closes down the cuticle on the hair, and makes it shiny. It also removes product build up (like mousse and hairspray).

Mayonaise IS a wonderful conditioner. I just don't think I could keep it on my hair for an hour. Yuck! LOL!

Baking soda and peroxide, mixed into a paste will whiten your teeth, too, if you brush with it. Just don't do it too often, since it is mildly abrasive.

Chamomile tea, cooled and poured through 'just washed' blonde hair will keep it from getting brassy.
