What is the Super Saver Shipping on Amazon.com?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: What is the Super Saver Shipping on Amazon.com?
By Mrsheidi on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 02:15 pm:

Have any of you done this?

By Pamt on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 02:39 pm:

I have. It's free shipping on selecting items, but you have to check the box for it--you don't automatically get it if you don't request it/ If you are Christmas shopping then I WOULD NOT recommend using it because it can take a week or two longer than standard shipping.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 05:42 pm:

You have to spend more than $25, too. It does take longer, though, like Pam said. For most things, it doesn't matter, but if it's a Christmas present, it might.

Ditto Dawn and Pamt. I shoot for Super Saver everytime I shop there. I think of gifts/items ahead of time that I need so I can take advantage of the free shipping. NOT automatic though, like Pam said.

I've used it at Christmas multiple times, and last week for gifts, and I've always gotten my orders at the regular shipping time. I don't recall it ever taking longer at all. My stuff from Amazon always comes so quickly.

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 09:11 pm:

Ok, because at the end of my order, they offered it. I was worried that I would have to sign up for an Amazon credit card or something like that. I'm so *over* everyone's gimics to open revolving credit accounts. We only have 1 credit card and no store accounts so our beacon score is higher.
So, if it offers it at the end of my order, it's ok but it just takes longer? Is that correct? I don't have to sign up for anything?

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 09:31 pm:

No, you don't have to sign up for anything, just make sure it's selected, before you click the final button, on the order.

Just a note. It's Amazon Prime, that would make you sign up for a credit card. That's different from the Super Saver Shipping.

Super Saver Shipping has NEVER taken longer for me! :)

What is a beacon score?

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 10:17 pm:

Credit report score...if you're higher than 750 then you get all sorts of great low APR offers on cars, etc. The less credit cards/revolving credit you have, the better. If you use the one you have and pay it on time, every time, then you're beacon score goes up. They also take into account how much debt you are in when using the cc's that you have. Your score goes down, for instance, if you owe $8,000 on a card that maxes at $10,000.

Each time you open a store account, apply for a loan, or credit card, they check your credit history which lowers your beacon score. That's why I was nervous about it. I was confused between the Super Saver Shipping and the Amazon Prime. I thought they were the same thing and I wasn't in the mood to try to read the fine print.

Also, I really don't like Amazon...I think their stock is going to go down and down. Their company has had troubles in the past and I think it's only getting worse. JMHO

I've just never heard of a credit score being referred to as a beacon score. That was new to me. :)

I hope Amazon stays strong...I love it. I buy so much from there. Everything I can't find in my town!

I'm getting ready to order something from Amazon and I thought I should clarify...it will SAY that it will take a few days longer, but it never has for me. All of Amazon's shipping times are stated to be longer than they actually are. In my experience anyway.

By Pamt on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 02:43 pm:

Yea, Deanna. I always get stuff with regular shipping earlier than Amazon says, but I have had a couple of thing with Super Saver shipping take up to 1-2 weeks longer. With Christmas gifts I would really err on the side of caution and cough up the shipping.
