I could use some help being sneaky!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: I could use some help being sneaky!
By Tink on Monday, November 20, 2006 - 12:45 am:

My DH's wedding band was stolen a few months ago and I'd like to surprise him with a new one for Christmas. Unfortunately, I have no idea what his ring size is and he doesn't wear any other rings for me to take in with me. Do any of you have any ideas how to find out his ring size or a way to measure his finger without giving away the reason? If I have to, I'll tell him or get him a ring and then have it sized but I'd prefer to surprise him with one that fits. Thanks in advance!:)

QVC actually has a ring sizing guide on their site. This is just a random ring but click on *availability guide* next to *quantity*, and there is a sizing link that is in pdf format, that you can print out.

Well, that pretty much puts you to the sizing guide. Click on that, try it when he's sleeping. Otherwise, use a narrow strip of paper or piece of string while he's asleep.

Another option is to jokingly measure his hand. I know avon carries rings, if you get those catalogs they also have a ring sizer in them, you could look for an opportunity to size your finger to maybe order something and jokingly measure his too. My hubby and I goof around a lot, so I can see where a conversation like this could lead....ooh what big hands you have, look how pretty this could look on your finger, etc.

Another option, any chance you have receipts from the original ring? The size is probably printed, or if you know where you bought it from, there is some chance they would have a record.

Ditto Kaye-My DH and joke around lots and I'm sure jokingly I could get his finger sized. You could say "Hey Hon,did you know the experts say that if you measure your finger width and multiple by ... thats the width of your....uhmmm" All men are sexual creatures he'll fall for it. I hope I didn't offend anybody here...:)

ROFL... Sherry, that is perfect!!!! You can't be more right!!! And, the perfect way to solve the problem!!!!

LOL, Sherri!

OR... You could recruit one of the kids for help, one who would be able to keep a secret. Make up a homework assignment that requires family members to be measured - height, foot length, hand width, finger measurements, etc..

Good Luck! Let us know how things work out.

ROFL-Sherri's idea would definitely work on my dh and he'd never suspect. I love that!

You are all so much sneakier than I am! I'm sure that my dh, like some of your's, will fall for Sherri's idea but if he doesn't, my ds's homework has been working with measuring and I'm sure that I can pull that one off. Thanks to all of you!

I would use yarn while he's sleeping. It's fairly soft and lightweight, so I doubt he would feel it :)

My hubby sleeps so soundly, that I could probably measure his finger while he is sleeping, too. Since your son's recent homework involves measuring, though, that's perfect and everyone could get their finger measured, without him suspecting.
