Question for backyard gardeners

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2006: Question for backyard gardeners

We recently installed a fence and have 5 - 6 ft of space on the other side of the fence to the edge of our property. I want to plant some kind of evergreen border or something else that is easy to maintain and doesn't grow out of control. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. TIA :)

Hemlocks are great. We planted a row of 3ft trees a few years ago and they are easily 15 ft tall now. No maintenance whatsoever, and they are just beautiful.

Boxwood makes a nice hedge. Buford Holly is a dwarf holly that is compact with shiny dark green leaves and lots of berries in the winter.

Lots of Boxwood in our landscaping. It's very nice, although it does need trimming although definitely still fairly maintenance free. I trim them about 3x each year.

I'll look into those suggestions. Thanks ladies. :)
