Three School Shootings in a Week????

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2006: Three School Shootings in a Week????
By Hol on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 - 02:35 pm:

I have made a vow not to listen to much of the news anymore. It's all bad, and I try to only dwell on that which is "of good report", as the Bible says. For that reason, I don't put the Today Show on in the morning anymore. However, I guess you can't hide from everything. I thought I heard that there was a school shooting in Canada last week, then one in Colorado, where the victims were all girls, and that they were sexually assaulted. Then, the Amish school yesterday?

What the heck is going on? How AWFUL and TRAGIC!!!!

I know what you mean, Hol. I have not been able to "go there" for the last few days. I can't let myself think about this too much. I feel so for the parents. And I'm frightened for my own child. I know as parents our job is to prepare them for what's out there. This is just too frightening.

Well, I'm not watching the news that much. I'm still sending my kids to school. We can't just lock ourselves up in our houses. In Milwaukee, that isn't always safe, either, since stray bullets find their way into houses and kill people that way. It's not quite that dangerous here. I just want to live my life and that's what I'm doing.

Our elementary school has been working on a new emergency calling plan.
We had the test run yesterday, and it seemed to all go well. Only a couple of small glitches.
I certainly hope we never have to use it though.
All of these school shootings scare me. You just never know. And, no one see's it coming.
