Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2006: Dyson Animal Vacuum...
By Andi on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 11:43 am:

I just bought one and I am really stressing over the price. Did I do the right thing???:) Do any of you have one? Please tell me you love it!!! I actually saved about $200 on it but I still want to make sure I made the right decision.

TIA

I am considering buying one of these myself. I have two long hair cats that seems to shed enough to make an entire new cat daily. I am looking around for the best deal. Where did you get yours?

By Insaneusmcwife on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:11 pm:

I don't have the animal, I have red and purple one and I love it. To me it was worth every penny. I have had mine for a year this month and have not had any problems with it.

By Andi on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:28 pm:

Tammie I got it on:

I bought the new one not the refurbised since the price differance was only $80 and with the new one I get a 5 year warranty.

By Debbie on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:38 pm:

I don't have the animal one, but I bought the original one a few months ago. I lOVE it. It picks up so much stuff!! In fact, my mom saw it when she was here last month, and now she is bugging my dad to get her one.

By Vicki on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 01:23 pm:

I have the purple animal and I LOVE it. Wouldn't trade it for any vacuum out there!! Does that make you feel better? LOL Have you used it yet? Use your old one in a room to where you THINK it is clean and then run your animal over it.... after that, you will love it!!

By Reds9298 on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 03:27 pm:

I didn't even know they had an animal one! I would lOVE to get a Dyson, but too many other things to buy at the moment. It's on my wish list. I'll keep the animal dyson in the back of my mind now. We have 2 dogs and we will ALWAYS have dogs, so the hair is inevitable.

By Andi on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 03:49 pm:

Yes, that makes me feel a little better.

I ordered it online so I won't have it until Thursday. I vacuum twice a day and I'm without a vacuum right now since mine is broken. When the Dyson comes Thursday it will be put to work immediatly! LOL:)

I have the Yellow one and LOVE it! I have had it for probably a year and a half and have had no problems with it at all. I still love it! I don't think you will be disappointed.

By Jewlz on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 06:29 pm:

By Melissa on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 06:50 pm:

I have the animal one. I love it!

By Annie2 on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 12:05 am:

I need this vacuum, too. My current one sucks...or doesn't suck! LOL

How much does the animal one cost?

By Kaye on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 12:34 am:

I just bought a vac this week and couldn't justify the money. I hope you love it!

Annie I bought a bissell. I am very very pleased with how it works. I guess unless you use another vaccuum you never know. But so far it is a highlight of my day :)

By Jackie on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 08:29 am:

We have one. Honestly, I do not think its that big of a deal. Yes it works well, but I do not think its worth the money we paid for it. Of course dont let my opinion sway anybody. We have so much dog hair in this house. Between my 2 dogs, and my customer dogs who come and go, we end up with tons of hair. I vacuum at least once a day. Even after I vacuum, I still see hair on the floor.

Just want to say that though I don't own one, I don't think the price is that bad. We bought a Kirby 20 years ago and paid nearly 3X that and IMO, the Kirby was c**p. My Bissell worked MUCH better than the Kirby. If the Dyson is all that it is said to be, I'd put my money on it any time.

By Annie2 on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 08:35 pm:

How much do they cost?

By Kaye on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 09:25 pm:

I paid less than 200 for my bissell. All the dysons I looked at were way over 400. The one I wanted was the dyson purple ball (according to 3 different stores, those are the ones that aren't returned). It had a price tag of 650.

By Andi on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 03:52 pm:

I paid $429 with free shipping and no sales tax. That is why I wanted to know what people thought. From what everyone has posted I think I will be very happy with it. Still a little shocked that I paid so much for a vacuum, but I use it so much it has to be a really good one.

Thanks everyone!

By Kaye on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 12:58 am:

Just another thought here for Annie...

All dysons are not equal! Really read the consumer reports. They have different motor sizes, etc. There is a huge swing in price differences from the yellow 07 to the purple animal 15. But there are two styles, the ball and no ball. The animal difference is about one attachment, which every review I have said, isn't worth owning, so money well saved by not buying it.

those who love your dyson, what model do you have? I wonder if there is a correlation?

By Jewlz on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 01:05 am:

i have an animal without the ball and paid 359 for mine 4 years ago. i have the attachment honestly i dont use it that much not sure how to find out the motor sixe but it sucks big time and love it

By Eve on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 09:07 am:

Ok, I might faint. I could never spend that much on a vacuum cleaner. I've heard wonderful things about them though, Andi. Keep me posted. How does it work on your bare floors? I have hardwood throughout the house and just a few rugs. I think Stori is a big fan of these, isn't she?

By Debbie on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 10:22 am:

Kaye, I love mine, it is the original yellow one. I paid $350.00 after a $50.00 rebate. I love it because it doesn't have the same filters as the other bagless vacuums I have owned. So, when I empty it, everything comes out, nothing sticks to the filter. It also has much better suction then any other vacuum I have owned. The first time I used it, I couldn't believe how much stuff came up. I also like how the attachment hose just pops out of the handle, very easy to use. In our new house, we have a lot more carpet, so it is definitly worth it for me. If I didn't have a lot of carpet, I defintiley wouldn't buy one.

By Debbie on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 10:24 am:

....oh, I also wanted to add that we don't have pets, so no hair to pick up.

By Kittycat_26 on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 10:30 am:

We just got the original yellow one this weekend. I think I've vacummed everything in my house twice. We just love it.

I was sticker shocked for a little until I saw how well it worked. (especially compared to our old one)

By Truestori on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 12:00 pm:

I have the purple animal, and I do like it. It vaccums any surface and really picks up the dirt. I let my neighbor borrow it and she is sold. Intially, she couldn't understand how someone could pay that much for a vaccum, but guess whats on her Christmas list this year?? LOL
I paid 329.00. I bought it at Home Depot when they were clearancing them out last year. It was brand new! I think I got an awesome deal.
