DH Having Surgery Tomorrow....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: DH Having Surgery Tomorrow....

Bob, my DH is having nasal surgery tomorrow. Poor guy..it's the THIRD time for the same procedure. He has a big polyp on each side, and keeps getting sinus infections. The first time he had it done, he was in the military. The second time was about eight years ago, by a civilian doctor. Both of those times, he was out of work for 2-3 weeks. Tomorrow, it is the same civilian doctor doing it. He thinks he'll only be out of work a week this time. It's a relatively simple procedure, though ALL surgery is risky. And now that he has had a triple coronary by-pass (two years ago) and a pacemaker last year, he is a little more high risk.

Debby, my DD has also had it done three times, the last one this past Spring. My father-in-law had a lot of nasal problems and allergies, so I guess they both inherited it from him.

Normally, I would put this on the prayer board but I wanted to make sure that it is seen tonight. We have to be at the hospital at 6:30AM. He will go to the OR at about 8:00.

I would sure appreciate prayer that everything goes without a hitch. Thanks so much.

We got home about 2:30 this afternoon and we both took a nap since we left the house at 5:30AM to be at the hospital for 6:30.

He did well and looks good tonight. He had some pain when he woke up in the recovery room, so they gave him Dilaudid in his IV. I was laughing because I could tell by his eyes that he was SO stoned, but he said it took the pain away.

He has to have a soft diet for a week because they don't want him to do a lot of chewing. I gave him Cream of Wheat (his choice) and some very ripe cantalope, cut up small, for supper.

He gets his packing out on Thursday afternoon. They look so gross when they come out (they look like little tampons in the nose :)). He'll find out then when he can go back to work. Initially, the doctor told him a week, but the post op instructions said no lifting for two weeks. His job consists of a LOT of lifting.

THANK YOU ALL for your prayers and concern. Like I mentioned above, he is a little more high risk now, so I am relieved to have him home.

Glad for the good news. I hope your dh takes the "no lifting" restriction seriously - he certainly doesn't want to mess things up. Maybe his boss can give him light duty - no lifting - for a week or two.

I'm glad everything went well! I got stoned on Dilaudid, after Emily's c-section. I had a little pump dosing me a small bit all the time and then I could dose myself, every so often. The little bit all the time, was too much, though! LOL! Things got a little foggy!

Glad to hear he is doing all right, Hol.
