FL is still really hot, however, I am doing a coffee party on the 29th. It's an online thing that you do at home, how's that for odd.

So anyway, I am having it on a Fri evening on our patio. I suspect it will be hot and humid. So I am looking for food ideas that go w/ coffee. There will be different flavor coffees and I will be adding different stuff to some. I am also leaning heavily towards frozen coffee drinks.

I need some SIMPLE recipes to choose from. I plan on doing fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate. But I have never done this, so no clue how to do the chocolate part. I can figure out the dipping part :).

Need some tasty cakes.

What else goes w/ coffee at night? Would you do doughnuts at night?

There will be about 12 couples attending. I don't have much storage place in fridge for make ahead stuff, so I need to go light on that.

I live in Florida and I did a similar theme for a baby shower. It was "Just Desserts" (with coffee).
I bought a cheesecake sampler and cut it into smaller bite size pieces. I had chocolate covered strawberries. We also had petit fours. Sams club has a lot of goodies already for the holidays.
As far as a chocolate fondue, you can go to this web site for a bunch of recipes

Easy way to make chocolate covered strawberries: melt milk chocolate chips in microwave. Dip strawberries in the chocolate and put on wax paper. Chill until ready to serve. VERY simple and yummy!

PS---Everyone loved having desserts only and said they would copy it next time they entertained. it was easy and not very expensive. I had regular coffee and cinnamon coffee with various creamers.

Thanks Yvonne. I'll check into Sams Club as well, I love their foods that are easy party foods.

Has anyone ever made frozen coffee drinks?

My aunt made this ice cream cake that was good. It was the starbucks low fat cappucino(I think that's it)ice cream. You take a ready made chocolate crust and soften the ice cream by letting it sit out a bit and spoon it into the shell. Then you take hot fudge and heat it slightly so that is pours, but isn't too hot. Just pour it over the ice cream, which melts the ice cream down smooth. Then, she used chopped pecans and sprinkled them over the top and pressed them in a bit and put it back in the freezer. It was yummy!

My Mom made this before and it made everyone almost fall out of their chairs, it's that good. She even used a store bought chocolate cake! This gets 5 stars on the foodnetwork too!

By Eve on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 08:55 am:

Ok, that didn't work! Here it is:
Paula Deen's Chocolate Toffee Trifle:

1 box chocolate cake mix (recommended: Duncan Hines)
1/2 cup coffee liqueur
2 cups fudge sauce, recipe follows, or 1 (16-ounce) jar fudge sauce
3 chocolate covered toffee candy bars, broken into pieces
1 1/2 cups heavy cream whipped and sweetened with 1/3 cup sugar

Prepare the cake according to the package directions for a 9 by 13-inch cake. Cool thoroughly.
Prick the entire top of the cake with a fork. Pour coffee liqueur over the cake and allow it to soak in. Wrap the cake with plastic and refrigerate for at least 3 hours. Slice the cake into 1-inch thick pieces.

Line the bottom of a large glass bowl with a single layer of cake. Pour 1/4 of the fudge sauce over the cake, top with 1/4 of the candy bar-bits then 1/3 of the whipped cream. Repeat layering 2 more times ending with fudge sauce and candy bits. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Cook's Note: Assemble the trifle shortly before serving or it will get soggy.

Hot Fudge Sauce:
1 (4-ounce) bar German chocolate
1/2-ounce unsweetened chocolate
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1 2/3 cups evaporated milk
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
To make the sauce: Melt the German chocolate with the butter in a saucepan over very low heat. Stir in the powdered sugar, alternating with evaporated milk and blending well. Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer until the mixture becomes thick and creamy, about 8 minutes. Stir in the vanilla.

You know, I think if you are doing chocolate covered strawberries, I would just dip more items while you are at it. I would dip dried apricots and do some pretzels. You could do them well ahead of time. HTH:)

Trifle Recipe

That recipe sounds delicous!

Eve, those are great ideas. I like the sound of the trifle, but not up to preparing it. Great idea about doing pretzels. Never heard of doing dried apricots, but I can do that! I even have some already.

I know it's as hot (or hotter) in FL as in LA. I'm thinking chocolate dipped fruit is going to melt and get mushy or "sweat." I personally would just have a couple of baskets of 2-3 kinds of cookies and call it good.
