Your secret ambitions.

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: Your secret ambitions.

I'm feeling a little silly because I decided that I was going to pursue a teenage dream career.

I want to pencil comic books. Pencilers are basically the ones who draw the book off the writers script. I even started a blog to keep myself disciplined...www.combicbookwoman.blogspot.com. Yes, I know I spelled 'comic' wrong and yes, that's a plug, so check it out. :)

I feel like I admitted that I secretly want to be a clown. But heck, it's a dream and it's one I know I'm good enough to acheive so why not, eh?

What about you guys? What are the dreams you put aside that you've stopped reaching for but are perfectly acheivable? Or do you have some you are beginning to go after?

My Secret ambition, well not anymore:), is to a comedian! I started watching stand up at a very young age and love it, don't really watch it now, but love funny women, I think I'd like to do fun radio show! I don't know that it is perfectly acheivable at this stage of my life, but you never know! I am living my current passion and drive now which I feel blessed for every day, but has NOTHING to do with being a comedian:)

I'm really good at silly voices-My kids love it!! I can do Elmo,Kermit the Frog,Miss piggy and a few others.I started very young and I can talk without moving my mouth so the kids really think the stuffed animals are talking. There's definaltely alot of humour in my house and that's where I'll leave it.LOL

Dawn, this would be right up your alley. :)

My kids both went to Cartoon Camp this summer and loved it. DS (10), who has always had a knack for drawing, is now taking the Anime class. I don't know where his drawing ability came from, but he certainly didn't get it from me. LOL!

I've always wanted to be a teacher, even since I was a little girl. After getting sick and being forced to give up my "good" job, my health came back enough to start substituting in my children's primary school. After doing it for a year, I realized that is what I still truly want to do, so I am now about two to three years away from having my degree to teach young children!

I'm so excited to finally be pursuing this and I still love substituting.

And in 2-3 years, we will be moving to the Myrtle Beach area, so I will be fulfilling both of my lifetime dreams: to teach, and to live by the ocean.

It's so funny you should post this. My secret ambition (well not so secret - but unattainable non the less) was to be a great Soprano and just sing opera all day long. I studied voice for 15 years and loved it - but reality got in the way. So six years and two kids later I've gone back to singing. I had my first lesson in six years today. It was amazing!

My little Helen started pre-school this week and is loving it, so I now have the time to take lessons again.

I can't begin to say what a positive frame of mind it has put me in today. I should be exhausted because Helen had me up for three hours last night and I have a sinus infection, but I'm not. I am so energized!

I think your starting to do comic penciling is great Dawn. Adena - to teach at the beach - what a great ambition. Sherri and Kym - humor is a great ambition. It's what makes each day a little more joyful.

I love this post. I am almost at the end of my secret ambition...to be a professor and researcher. I remember doing research for a paper in high school and thinking to myself that when people looked in data bases for information that they might come across my name. I really should graduate next summer with my Ph.D., so this one is a reality for me.

Other dreams:
*semi-realistic secret ambition: I want to write just one publically and critically acclaimed great American novel. Just think Harper Lee/"To Kill a Mockingbird."
*pipe dream ('cause I'm too chicken---and getting too old): I would love to play Ado Annie in a community theater production of "Oklahoma."

By Truestori on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 - 06:35 pm:

Hmmm....
I would love to be fit enough to become a female body builder. I'm not talking huge muscle just nice, sexy definition. :)

I would also love to learn hip-hop dancing, but I think I'm WAAAYYY to old!

Now to the realistic ambition: I am starting school on Sat. to pursue a career in Education, my Masters with credential should be done in 3 years TOPS!!!

I always wanted to be a police officer, but I can't. I would love to be in public relations now. I wonder what you major in for that career field... I'll have to look into that.

I always wanted to be a singer! I've been singing and playing instruments all my life...in church, in competitions, at weddings, at school functions, the list goes on. I was in a singing group that wrote songs in high school. We just formed ourselves. We wrote an anti-abortion song that was up for a possibility of being Right to Life's theme song! I was the lead and we sang it in 3 different cities in Indiana, at anti-abortion rallies of over 2000 people. It was AWESOME! (The singing!) I miss that so much! I have heard soooo many times that I have such a wonderful voice, especially for country music (which I don't even listen to). Music is my life! I totally relate Ame, on getting back to your voice lessons. Everyone I know says I could be a star, but I just want to sing publicly again! I don't care where or why or how, but singing everyday is so rejuvenating. I sing constantly, but being onstage is where it's at.

I didn't have enough confidence when I was younger to head for Nashville and tough it out looking for a break or a band. I am also way too practical for something like that, but it's still in my dreams. :)

I remember when my DH and I were first together and he heard me sing at functions he would say "I can't believe I get to kiss the mouth that can sing like that." Isn't that sweet?!!!

I hope that didn't sound braggy. I was just taking a walk down memory lane. :)

Okay, maybe being a concert pianist. Not really attainable, though, since I don't really want to work that hard, but sometimes, it would be nice to be able to play that well. I play well enough to make me happy, so maybe that's all that counts.

I like to sing, too, but not anything more than being in the church choir. Being in choir allows me to sing my heart out, without people telling me to be quiet. I can sing in tune, but apparently any kind of singing bugs my kids.

I would really love to be a photographer but i don't learn well and i have it on auto pretty much all the time = ( ...i also am very afraid to go up to people and ask to take pictures to build a portfolio...maybe in another life lol = )

Pam, I always wanted to play Sandy in a production of "Grease"! Now my daughter is living out my dreams by performing and acting in public performances. It thrills me even more than if I were doing it myself!

By Coopaveryben on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 - 11:03 pm:

This is a great post! I have been trying to talk myself into returning to school and as I read some of these I see that so many of you went back and did what you wanted and so many others seemed so obtainable that while I was reading them I was thinking "why doesn't she do that?"

I want to get my masters in marriage and family counseling. I have to finish my Bachelors first!

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 - 11:12 pm:

I'm already doing what I always wanted to do...be a mommy and a high school teacher and coach. I know I'll finish my masters soon.

So...that leaves me with acting. I've always wanted to be a movie star. I love acting and being somebody else. Now, if only I could remember my lines. Having a child has seriously taken a toll on my memory.

I love reading these, BTW. :)

My entire life all I ever wanted to be was a doctor in an ER. Sounds kinda weird but that is all I ever wanted. Well I think that might be a little far out of reach at this point since I never finished college because I decided to start a family instead at 19. But if all goes the way I am planning them I will start back to school in the spring and within a few years have my nursing degree and I will get to work in an ER maybe.

This post is very inspirational. I love reading them.

I hope everyone's dreams come true.

I'm already doing the Mom/Wife/Nurse dreams I had! LOL! I never wanted to be a doctor, though. It sounded way too much like work! I always just wanted to be a nurse. I love working where I work now, in a walk-in clinic.

I have always wanted twins. Oh wait- I got that! Just kidding.

Well, I have a good imagination and I read alot of childrens books that aren't that great- so I have always wanted to write my own.

And...I wanted to make earrings. Just because I couldn't find any I liked in stores, so ...I am doing that! And 4 months ago started selling them right here in town at Black Belt Treasures!
Unfortunately - I can't quit my day job just yet.:)
