Karen, do you have one, or is it something still on your wish list? If you or anyone else does, what kind do you have, and how do you like it?

My Goddaughter worked for me all summer, and saved the big bucks to buy herself one. She bought a Nikon D70S. I had a week to have fun with it before she left. It really is beautiful, but it doesn't have anywhere near the zoom I'm used to. I'd have to spend an extra $500 to get the lens that would make me happy.
I saw a Pentax that wasn't as expensive, and it came with 2 lenses, including the zoom I'd want. I know it's not as good as hers, but it sure is WAY better than the Kodak that I have. I love my camera, and I don't think I'll be able to afford the other one anytime soon, but it sure is fun to dream!

I actually own two, a Canon 20D and a Nikon D200. I LOVE them!!!! After using a DSLR you will never want to go back to just a digital camera.

I am still learning functions with my Canon, and I *just* got my Nikon, it's a bit more involved to use. But photography is something I really love, and I am hoping to do something with it one day.......... My Canon works really well under certain conditions, but I think I'm going to get a lot more from this Nikon - I got the 18-200 lens, whereas the Canon lens I have is just 17-85.

Once you get spoiled by the shutter action and all the other possible things to do with a DSLR, including manual functions, you will never turn back.

PLUS - the ability to use different lenses is wonderful.

The Canon Rebel is a good camera, I personally like Canons and Nikons. I *do* know that in the Pentax before the digital age, Pentax were excellent cameras, as were Olympus.

On my wish list: a really good macro lens, a 400 or 600 telephoto, strobe..........I could go on and on..........LOL

oh boy i got excited when i saw this title lol = )

I have a canon digital rebel xt and an olympus e-300 i love both of them = )

actually i find myself wanting to use the olympus more for some reason?I'm not sure why maybe because it's newer to me lol..good luck in your decision...

By Brandy on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 07:57 am:

also my olympus came with 2 different lenses.I have a doubler for the canon so i have a 75-300 lense for that and i get up to 600mm but they are sometimes blurry because of my shaking..i need to break out the tripod lol...

My lenses for both of my DSLR's are vibration resistant..........makes a HUGE difference!

By Karen~admin on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 09:16 am:

Brandy, sorry I haven't been in touch, family issues have required all of my attention.

What is a DSLR camera? :)

By Dawnk777 on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 03:46 pm:

Digital Single Lens Reflex camera. They can use interchangable lenses.

By Brandy on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 04:57 pm:

they are awesome cameras..very expensive but they are coming down in price depending on the one you get and what lenses you need.. = )

By Marcia on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 05:16 pm:

The one she bought just had 18-75, I believe. I want 75-200 or more. The Pentax comes with both of those. I'd love the macro, too, but would rather have the huge zoom.

By Karen~admin on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 05:35 pm:

The 200 zoom is good. What I *really* want is the 600 telephoto........ya right, dream on................... I do a lot of macro shots though, so I'll be getting a good macro lens before I get that telephoto lens.........

Bringing this one way up to the top again. :)
This is Boxing Day week in Canada, so we have sales like you have on Black Friday. I can now get the Olympus (I said Pentax by mistake when I first posted) for $700. It comes with 2 lenses, including up to a 150. My point and shoot has a 10x zoom, so I know I'll be stepping down as far as that goes. Brandy, this is the e500, so it will be similar to the one you love.
Am I going to find it a pain to carry around with me, when I'm used to a camera that can fit into my purse? Mine is large for a point and shoot, but still easy to carry around all the time.
I'm going to either have to grab this tomorrow or not at all.
WHAT SHOULD I DO????????

By Brandy on Thursday, December 28, 2006 - 12:15 am:

GET IT i hope i'm not too late in posting i just saw this i was at work...

By Marcia on Thursday, December 28, 2006 - 12:19 am:

LOL I just posted it tonight, after the store was already closed. Thanks for the input. :)

By Marcia on Thursday, December 28, 2006 - 08:47 pm:

I bought it!!!! Now I'm feeling very impatient, waiting for the battery to charge. It takes 5 hours, and i have over an hour left. :( It's given me time to look the book over, which isn't something I'd typically do. I love to just fool around and learn by playing.
What are the lens hoods for??
