Anyone ready for fall weather?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: Anyone ready for fall weather?
By Dawnk777 on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 04:45 pm:

I'm sooo ready for fall! We had enough hot days up here this summer! I was just looking through Sarah's pics from last fall and I can't wait to see colored trees. A select few have already started to change color. It will be a while, before we have widespread fall colors. My favorites, after maple trees, are the Autumn Applause trees. They start out kind of purply, and then change over to yellow! I know where they ALL are, on the way to taking kids to school in the morning! Someday, I will have one in my yard!

These little images don't really do the beauty justice!

Sarah's Pics

By Annie2 on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 05:27 pm:

No, I'm not ready for summer to end, just yet. I like the heat and longer days!

Sarah's pics are always beautiful and very artistic. She has a gift! :)

By Ilovetom on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 06:13 pm:

Raising hand! Yes yes. Great pictures. It has been soooooo hot here and I am ready for it to cool down.

I am also ready for football! Our school's varsity played Friday night and of course we were in a draught all summer til Friday night. It rained cats, dogs, but no men. :(

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 06:38 pm:

I am so ready for Fall too... I love Fall... Great pictures...

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 06:57 pm:

Yeah, Sarah's football team (at her school) played this past Friday, too. Thank goodness it was a non-conference game, since they lost 27-0. Last year they played this same school and lost 38-0! Yikes! 2 years ago, they were 11-0 and made it 2 games into the playoffs!

We go to at least one game, but it's more to see the band march, than to see the game, although I do get caught up in the game, usually, anyway!

By Breann on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 07:21 pm:

I love fall! It's my favorite time of year. Love the crisp mornings and the slight chill in the air throughout the day. Just beautiful.

Sarahs pics are beautiful, as always!

By Hol on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 11:50 pm:

ME ME ME!!!! I, too, LOVE the Fall. I am NOT a hot weather person, and I have had my fill this summer. While I DO love the longer days (It is dark at 8:10PM here now), I also love the Fall colours, the smell of apples in the air, going for rides to buy pumpkins, decorating the house.

It is still warm during the day, in the Fall, but no humidity. My birthday is in the Fall, too, as well as two of my kids. I was in Walmart the other day and they are putting out all the wreaths and decorations in autumn colours.

I LOVE Sarah's pictures. Is that Jaz dressed up in the outfit? :) What a good girl! :)

By Tink on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 12:17 am:

I love the fall, too. And I don't care how hot it is (93 here today), the first day of school always signals the beginning of fall. Cooler weather, the smell of fireplaces being used, all the yummy autumn food! I REALLY wish that I lived somewhere that had amazing fall colors but what we get is still enough to keep me happy. I love to decorate for autumn and all the warm, rich tones associated with it. Oooh, I can't wait...and I've got at least 6 more weeks of summer.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 07:59 am:

Yeah, that's Jasmine, in the outfit! LOL! she wore it for about a half-hour. At that point, she managed to get the hat off and I took the rest of it off, then, too! She was a good sport!

I can't wait for fall food, either!

By Fraggle on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 08:01 am:

Fall seems to be hitting us a little too early this year, so no I am not ready. We have been having cool weather and haven't used our pool since the middle of August. And it really hasn't been very hot here all summer, only a couple of days in the high 80's.

By Colette on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 08:18 am:

No, not me. We had a horrible late spring/early summer with rain and flooding and then about a week of ridiculously hot temps and then this past weekend it was in the 50's. Not to mention we didn't get out of school until the 3rd week in June and have to go back this week. I love fall, just not yet.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 08:27 am:

I'm so ready for 50 degree temps. You have no idea.

By Tonya on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 08:28 am:

I am not reay for fall but I am ready for no more humidity. It is killing us. The weather here is not too bad except for the really high humidity. If that would go away I would be set.

I could live in 75-80 degree weather all year round!!!

By Tunnia on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 08:36 am:

I am so ready for Fall!!! It is my favorite time of the year...

...cool, crisp mornings, comfortable days, trees changing colors, picking out pumpkins and making jack-o-lanterns with the dks, eating out on the deck again, opening the windows and letting the house air out, sleeping with windows open, snuggling with my dh in front of the first fire in the fireplace on the first cool night...:)

By Jewlz on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 09:43 am:

Fall is my favorite time of the year! so many colors and the weather is so perfect. i cant wait to get into the kitchen and make some soups and chilis and stews and bread and do some more baking. ( wipes drool from chin) love to drink coffee on the patio and read my paper while its cool and quiet. I love in calif and its in the mojave dessert and the base of the valley in calif. so we dont get alot rain sighs and i miss it. and the weather is pretty great 8 months out of the year. the rest ... well its been hot as hell here this year. lol

By Dawnk777 on Monday, August 28, 2006 - 09:15 pm:

Tunnia, that is what I'm all waiting for, too! Jewlz, I can't wait for colors. There are a few already peeking through. Tonya, I'm SOOOOO ready for no humidity!

By Hol on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 12:39 am:

Ditto Dawn!!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 06:58 pm:

I was reading a book this afternoon and they mentioned taking a roast chicken out of the oven. Yummy! I can't wait, until it's cool enough to want the oven on that long!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 08:39 pm:

Definitely fall weather now! LOL! Still warm and fairly comfy during the day, but definitely chilly at night. Last night, we dipped into the 40's and since it's 51 now, I'm sure we will dip into the 40's tonight, too. Farther away from Lake Michigan, they have a possibility of frost! So, the furnace is running and Sarah and I took the window air conditioner out of her hallway window upstairs, so that we could close that window. It was cold in her room this morning.

DH will have to carry it downstairs tomorrow, and put the screen back in. It's too dark for me to see where the screen actually goes, and she won't need it tonight.

We went to the apple orchard tonight, bought apples, caramel apples, apple cider and fed the goats and donkeys, along with playing with a very friendly barn cat! This cat was following us around, meowing and when we would sit on the ground, would curl up in our laps and purr! To cat-deprived people, it was a great cat fix!

By Breann on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 08:55 pm:

Awwww! The apple orchard sounds like so much fun.

It's definitely fall weather here! Today was soooo cold! But, it's supposed to be back up in the 80's next week. Up and down, that is what our falls are like.

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 09:02 pm:

No, not yet! I like to hold on to summer for as long as possible. I like Fall, but it's second to Summer.

By Pamt on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 09:08 pm:

I HATE, HATE, HATE summer!! I'm ready for fall, except we don't even really get one here. Live oaks stay live and ugly pine trees get ugly brown pine needles. I sooooo miss my Missouri falls where we had red maples and sweet gum trees that turned fabulous colors, cool mornings and nights with a tinge of frost, etc. I hate living in the south so much!

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 09:25 pm:

Yes, i'm ready for fall. We now have the cool crisp air! It was chilly today, it was in the 50s! My kids had their winter jackets on when the went to the bus stop this morning! brrrr! I do love this time of year though because we still have leaves on the trees, and it's nice cooler weather.

The apple orchard sounds nice. We are going to ours in October.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 09:54 pm:

I love cooler weather, too! I've been wearing my winter jacket, after dark, when I take out the dog, but it's been nice enough during the day, that you don't always need a jacket.

By Reds9298 on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 10:09 pm:

Yes, yes, yes!! Summer is my least favorite time of year.

By Imamommyx4 on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 10:26 pm:

Oh, yeah! I actualy love all the seasons. And by the time a new one is ready to come on, I'm ready for it. I love the colors and cooler temps and mums and football games with a blanket.

By Marcia on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 10:33 pm:

I'm not ready for it, but it's here. It was freezing out there today. It was dark, wet and somewhere around 50*. The trees started changing colours weeks ago, but many are still completely green. While fall is very pretty, I hate the cold weather and the freezing weather of winter that will soon be here!

By Karen~admin on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 07:50 am:

Ditto Pam on Louisiana summers. I could live in 75-80 degree weather year round too - for that we have to wait at least until Nov.

By Tarable on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 09:42 am:

I just want to be able to turn the A/C off. The electric bill is getting outrageous. I like it warm not too cold but this summer is getting really ridiculous.

By Tink on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 10:29 am:

I'm with Tara. I really want to stop using the A/C! We're still looking at highs from 88-91. At least we're cooling into the 60's overnight. I'm so ready for fall. Marcia, I think one of the reasons I like fall so much here is that it lasts quite awhile. We may not have the great leaf colors but the cooler temps, etc. last for a couple of months.

By Hol on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 07:44 pm:

I SO love the Fall. I love decorating the house. I was in the yarn department of Walmart last night and I could smell something that smelled like cinnamon potpourri. It smelled SO good, and so like Fall. And I thought, "What a great idea, putting it so close to the yarn because the yarn smells like it, too".
Well, I turned the corner, and it was scented pine cones. They were in a bag for $2.97. I bought some, as I have this tall glass cylinder that is really a candle holder. They will look pretty as a Fall centerpiece on my table.

I just love the cool nights, the autumn leaves, baking apple pies. Even getting dark earlier doesn't bother me because I like having us all gathered in for the night.

By Sandysmom on Friday, September 22, 2006 - 10:05 am:

Dawn, great pics! Yes, I am definitely ready for fall. It's my favorite time of the year.

By Tripletmom on Friday, September 22, 2006 - 01:26 pm:

Ditto,Ditto,Ditto Marcia-We all know what the Canadian winter has in store for us.I love love love the snow but not looking forward to the cold.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 11:23 am:

We are *supposed* to have a front come through this weekend and the highs for the early part of next week are supposed to be the low 80's. THAT is exciting for me! As for using the A/C, ours is used probably 50 weeks out of the year.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 03:32 pm:

Wow! I know we use our AC, up here, probably more than a lot of people. Some people don't want to use their AC, because they like having the windows open. I don't like how clammy everything gets, when it's muggy outside, so we keep ours on a lot.

Today, is warm enough, though, that we don't need heat, so that is nice.
