Random post bumps

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: Random post bumps
By Pamt on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:14 am:

Why do some posts recently, particularly in the debate and book/movie sections, keep jumping to the top even though no one has posted on them? Just wondering.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:28 am:

What has happened, is the board gets spammed with unauthorized posts from time to time. The moderators remove them as soon as we see them, so most of you never even know they were there, but the thread remains in that position. It's a bit confusing, isn't it? LOL

I wondered the same thing until Karen and Ginny explained it to me. LOL! Sometimes people who are not registered members attempt to post and get an authentication error message. The moderators are able to delete the error message but the post stays bumped. Does that make sense?

LOL, Karen! You beat me to it!

It used to be infrequent, but we are seeing at least one almost every day now. We move them to a special staff board to keep track of them. John and Feona are on a "new baby" break right now, but when John comes back he will see if there is some way to block some of the spammers. I don't know enough to really judge, but it seems to me they are pretty much from the same domain/ISP. We (moderators) can sometimes see the intended message, and they are all advertising/spam (though one was a real weirdo).

It's annoying.
