Can you freeze bananas?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: Can you freeze bananas?

I bought too many bananas this time & I'm afraid they will go bad. If you can freeze them, do you freeze them with or without the peel? Do you need to do anything special to them? TIA

I always freeze my bananas to make banana bread.I peel/mash and then bag them. They will still turn brown.I also freeze and then use them in the boys pablum as a filler.

I would think that you could...they sell frozen chocolate covered bananas... don't know if you could freeze them with the skin on and expect them to be like fresh when you took them out however. But I would think you could use them for breads or cakes etc?? Don't think I would leave the skin on though. Honestly, I have no idea. LOL How is that for advice. LOL

You can just put them in the freezer with the peel on (either in a freezer bag or not). The peel will turn black but the banana will still be good. Use them in pancakes, bread, muffins, or whatever else you can think of - just don't defrost, peel and eat.

We have frozen them just frozen enough that you can still eat them. It is like a dessert. It is good.

I peel, chop and freeze them to put in my protein shakes. I also freeze them and use them for baking. I put them on a cookie sheet to freeze them, then bag them. That way they don't all mush together.

We dip bananas in chocolate, put a popsicle stick in then and freeze them. :)

We peel them and slice them first, because we usually freeze them to make smoothies. Once they are frozen, they are hard to peel and slice.

I peel them and freeze them whole for smoothies or bananna bread.

Sure you can freeze them! I freeze them with the peel, and when i want to make a smoothie, I pop them into the microwave. When they are defrosted, I peel them, put them into my blender with some choc. syrup, vanilla and milk. The bananas get very mushy, but who cares! They get mushed up in the blender too! it comes out delicious.
