Mothers day

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: Mothers day
By Jackie on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 12:14 pm:

Does anybody not have plans for this day? From talking to other people it seems I am the only one who has no plans for this day. Normally I like to go to eat, but dread the crowds on this day. My son informed he has no money to buy me a mothers day gift. My 6 yr old said she does not know if she will make me something in school or not.
I guess all in all, it does not matter. My husband is not good at gathering up the kids and getting me something. He normally gets me a card, but does not really push the kids to anything.
I do not mind. They are my kids, and I love them, no matter what LOL

For my mother,(Who lives in Florida)I sent her a card out late(oops)with 10 scratch off lottery tickets. My parents will be here in Mid June. So that way if she wins any money she can cash it in when she is here.Since they always visit, well at least once a year. I do the scratch off lottery tickets in their mothers/fathers day cards and birthday cards. They seem to get a kick out of it.

Hey, I don't have any plans either so you are not alone. I'm pretty sure dh hasn't made any plans because I don't even think he knows its coming up. You guys could always come over for a bbq. We have the trampoline up, I can hook up the slip n slide and maybe we can sneak away and go get pedicures.

Tonight we are celebrating Addison's 10th birthday. There will be 9 kids for a sleepover. They are making their own pizzas for dinner. Tomorrow it is relaxing and playing in the pool and the kids head home at 2:00 PM. Saturday night hubby will take over dinner and let me recover from the party. Sunday will be all about FUN.
We are combining my son's birthday wish and my mother's day wish. We are taking the boat out for a nice relaxing ride (what I wanted) then...finding a spot where Addison can try out his new wakeboard. The kids made me cards (I saw them drag in supplies to their room) and hubby usually writes me a letter. It should be a good day.
I sent my mom new clothes for our upcoming cruise. She received them today and was thrilled. I also sent cards to my sister and close friends...oh yeah and to the mother-in-law/outlaw. :)

We don't have any special plans and that's fine with me! I just want to spend the day with my family. I hope it stops raining so we can spend it outside!! :)

DD has a dance recital tomorrow. Tonight is the rehearsal and tomorrow is full with lunch for the girls, hair appointments, pictures, and the big recital. DS has his first baseball game tonight. I told DH I want to go out to breakfast on Sunday and then do nothing. He usually gets me a card and a present that I go with him to pick out. It's alwasys something for the house.

For Father's Day weekend, DD is in an out-of-town softball tournament so we probably won't do much that weekend either.

We don't have any major plans. We usually go out to dinner the day before(I hate the crowds too) and then dh will cook or bbq on Mother's Day. Both of my boys made me something at school. Dh usually gets me a card and a small gift. We have always just hung out as a family on this day, and it should be the same this year, which is just fine with me.

By Tonya on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 01:07 pm:

I get to sleep in until I decide to get up and the kids are not allowed in my room until I do for the entire weekend. The same thing happens for Fathers day for him. And we are having a BBQ at my parents house for both days too.

I don't have to lift a finger for the entire weekend to do anythinnI don't want to!!!

By Jackie on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 01:47 pm:

Yvonne..I want to come to your house, relaxing by the pool, going on the boat, sounds like my kind of weekend LOL :)

Kristie-
I think a Bar b q sounds like fun. I have dog stuff to do until about 4ish, but anytime after that would be good.

By Reds9298 on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 01:55 pm:

Sounds nice Tonya....normally I wouldn't life a finger that weekend either, but ALL of DH's family is coming into town for a reunion of sorts with his brother who is soon moving to CA. So we will probably be doing some housework for that!! :(

DH always gets me a great gift with a beautiful card and spends way too much $. He's always like that with gifts though.

By Crystal915 on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 02:06 pm:

LOL, I was going to jump on Sunday, but came down with a cold, so I've cancelled it. (2 weeks in a row it was cancelled because of weather, now this!!) So, I've told DH, I don't want ANYTHING, my jump (whenever I get to it!!) will be my gift, so we'll hang out as a family and watch the race. On an interesting side note, my ex-husband called today to discuss visiting the kids this summer, and wished me an early Happy Mother's Day. I was totally (pleasantly) shocked, it was a very civil and decent thing for him to do!!

By Nicki on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 02:11 pm:

My husband thought Mother's Day is this coming Wednesday. Lol.:-) So now he's at the store with DD getting cards. He said to Lara, "Why didn't you tell me it's tomorrow?" Got to love him.

My husband doesn't do much for me on this day. Our kids are too young to do anything as well. We do go to my mil's home and have a little brunch with some more members of the extended family. I don't mind that dh and dks don't do anything for me. We prefer to focus on the more experienced mothers. They are such a Godsend!

By Dandjmom on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 03:26 pm:

I dont' have any plans, it's just me and my kids. I'm beat from working all week this has been a long week) to me. And I don't feel like taking the bus or subway out anywhere dealing wth the crowds , so i've asked my daughter tha she and her brother try to get along and at least not call my name for 10 minutes wuold be gift enough, but I also knwo not to hold my breath. So nothing special just like any other day around my hosue , wih the screaming, crying, asking the same thign over and over. But what can I say they are both my babies adn I love them dearly. I did buy my mother soem flowers for her grave , but I dont 'think that I'm going to make it this weekend.

We don't have any special plans and DH has to work but the kids and I are going to my mom's for a BBQ and spending some time in the pool. And, really, that's a great way to spend the day, as far as I'm concerned. I don't have to cook, clean or get dressed up and the kids always get along really well.

By Cocoabutter on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 04:44 pm:

Last year and the year before we went to visit my parents and my dh's mom and took them out for dinner- all of them. But this year we can't afford it, what with gas prices ($2.95) and the 120-mile round trip. so I just bought cards to send.

Dh might take me out, though.

By Karen~moderator on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 06:03 pm:

We will either go to the French Quarter, or perhaps barbeque at home. The kids are scattered and I don't know which ones I'll even get to see Sunday.

I made the decision that I didn't want anything done because I want us to save the money for our beach vacation next month. We aren't doing anything for my mother either because we talked them into going to the beach for several nights, too, so we are taking them to a super nice dinner at the beach while we are there to celebrate a late Mother's Day and Father's Day combined (it is the week of Father's Day).

My son painted and decorated a pretty clay pot for me at school with some kind of plant growing in it. My dd was pretty upset because her class didn't do anything for Mother's Day. She's in Fourth grade, and by then they just kind of don't do anything anymore. I told her it was okay, and explained to her that Ashton did that because he is only in first grade and his teacher is a first year teacher so she is just full of neat ideas still! I also told her I would like her to use her Easter gardening stuff to plant me a wildflower garden tomorrow and she is excited about that. So I think she is feeling better now.

No special plans! We just got a new lawnmower and DH teased me that that was my Mother's Day present! LOL! It is nice, though. Does a very nice job cutting, and when I used it the other day, I didn't feel all beat up, when I was done. The other one is heavy and after mowing for an hour, I really felt it! We got a Toro. It is a good thing, though. We needed a new mower.
