Question about "free gift" websites.........

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: Question about "free gift" websites.........

I found an item that I am interested in. However, you need to sign up and then accept the "sponor promotions" in order to get your free gift. Its a baby play yard. I don't want to sign up only to find out I have no interest in the things they want me to participate in.

Has anyone ever done this before?

Thanks.

Dana, google the name of the site and see if there are complaints. I suggest that the odds of your "qualifying" for the free gift are pretty slim, or are hedged around with requirements that you buy this or that at probably inflated prices.

DON'T DO IT!

I got suckered into one of those, it was to receive a digital camera. You HAVE to sign up for the sponsor promotions in order to be entered or qualified to receive this *free* item - before I realized what a scam it was, I had signed up for DVD club and CD club memberships. That was 2 years ago. Those sponsor promos offer X amount of free CDs or DVDS, but then you have to purchase a certain number at the regular club price in a particular time frame. To put it bluntly, I got ******. And that was just 2 of the 6 steps I was supposed to do to get this *free* camera. I tried to get out of the 2 sponsor promos I got suckered into once I realized what a scam it was, but couldn't. I ended up having to buy 3 more DVDs at the *regular club price* before May 20, 2006, or I was going to end up paying full price for the 7 or 10 free ones I got. Infuriating!

So...............don't do it! Nothing is free............NOTHING. No matter how good it sounds. The sponsor promos is where you end up paying your money, and for that, you could just go ahead and buy whatever it is that was offered as *free* in the first place.

Okay, that confirms my suspecions (sp?). Thanks. Sorry you got nabbed Karen. Don't you hate it when you fall for something like this KNOWING full well you are about to make a mistake. Sometimes I think our brain just turns off. I bought a van (traded in my nice Honda Prelude) and was in tears within hours of the purchase. I named that van, Claude Damm Van. After many prayers, I got a piece of paper that was not signed at the time of the transaction to allow the title work to go thru. Luckily, they HAD to take the van back. My Prelude was gone forever and I bought an Escort wagon. Man did I hate that car and what it represented to me.
For some reason I went thru this to learn a lesson. I can not immagine why I had to go thru it, but hopefully when it comes time to use my experience I will remember and not make another huge mistake like that one.
