Dh was finally promoted!!!! Brag and Vent

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: Dh was finally promoted!!!! Brag and Vent
By Insaneusmcwife on Monday, May 8, 2006 - 01:14 pm:

:)11 long months after being selected his number finally came up. Ds and I both pinned him. I had tried to convince ds that he need to punch the cheveron into dh when he pinned him (its tradition) but ds said he wouldn't do it. When it came time to make the pin, ds wailed on him which distracted me from taking my shot so he then took my shot as well. Poor dh had both cheverons pinned into him so he has 2 marks on each side. He was so proud of his son, lol. It looked very painful but my dh showed off his blood markings very proudly. That was Monday. :)
:(Saturday we had a party for him and I'm still trying to recover. It turned out to be a great party although I thought is was going to be doomed as the events that led up to the party made me think that going through with it was a bad idea. As you all know we moved the end of February. I bought a system for my computer that allows me to print edible images for cakes. Well somewhere in this mess, the only room I haven't organized is the print head that I could not find to to make the printer work. (If I don't find it its going to cost me $60.) so was very upset about that but moving on as I'm not going to let that ruin my day. I decide to make the best of it and decorate as I go, my best cakes come out that way anyways. Well, as I'm frosting the cake it falls to the floor. So I'm off to Walmart to go pick up a cake and the keg of beer that I ordered 3 days prior. My first stop was to customer service to let them know that I was there to pick up the keg. She not so politly tells me that she can't find it. I not so politly told her she better find it as I am having people over in less than 3hrs, I showed her my reciept and told her I was going to the bakery and I would be back for my keg. The bakery had a beautiful red and yellow (usmc colors) cake that was just waiting to have Congratulations Gunny! written on it. They must have known I was going to drop my cake, lol. So back to customer service where the Assistant Manager informs me that Budwiser didn't deliver the order. So I'm upset but hey what ever. So I inquire about them helping me out with some containers and ice to put the bottles of beer that I am now having to buy. I am told that it is not their problem that the truck showed up late. So now I am outraged as I have not only received horrible customer service but that I have been lied to. I demanded to speak to the store manager who refused to take responisbility for turning away the truck. The only thing he would tell me is that its company policy and that he couldn't give me free beer. I never once asked him to give me free beer. I asked him to loan me some containers and help me out with the extra expense with all the ice I was going to have to buy. The second time he told me he could't give me free beer and he got pretty loud about it, I let him have it. I told him what a worthless Manager he was, I made sure he understood that I NEVER asked for free beer and that I told him that Sam Walton must be turning over in his grave with the thought of his crappy customer service. I put in a call to 1-800-WALMART so we will see where that goes. After dealing with this idiot I went to check out with my 2 carts full of beer and ice, etc. The cashier proceeds to tell me that in the future if I come in 24hrs in advance I can order a keg and it would only be 1/2 the price and I would probably end up getting more beer. UGHHHHH! :( :(

I went home, iced the beer and sodas. Took a shower and then people started showing up. It turned out to be a great party. I met quite a few of my neighbors. And we had many laughs about the Wal~Mart incident.

One of our friends talked dh into adopting a great dane mix. So he jumps the gun and tells my dd about it. I could have smacked him. So I call the lady that has the dog and she tells me that not only does it come with a $75 vet bill but it has not been fixed or had any of its shots and oh ya its mixed with lab and rotwiler. Um...great dane and lab maybe but Rotti?? NO Thank you!!!! Besides it was going to be way bigger than I really want right now. So now we have a broken hearted dd. We took her to the SPCA to "look" at some other dogs. She found a Jack Russel that she really wants to we put in the application to adopt for it. He is a hyper little guy. He has been fixed so thats a big +. As we were walking back to put our little pink ticket on his cage that says he is on hold pending adoption process, she runs ahead to his cage, stops dead in her tracks and starts balling her eyes out. He wasn't there. They had already put him in a room with other perspective parents. She was devistated until one of the volunteers heard what was going on. She went and explained what happened to the other couple and they told Alli that its ok they were just keeping her dog company until she came back. We put the ticket on the cage, said one last goodbye and Alli cried all the way home because we had to leave him. Then this morning I got a call and my heart sank. It was the SPCA telling me that our end of the deal is good and that we can pick him up on Wednessday as long as the owners don't come today or tomorrow. So these next 2 days will be long for us. I was so worried they were calling to say the previous owners had a changed their minds. I took Alli back down there today to see him and he remembered her. he jumped all over her giving her kisses. She cried again as we left. Poor baby, she doesn't understand why we can't take him home.

Congratulations to hubby. I sure hope you get some satisfaction from Walmart.

Jack Russells are really, really, really hyper. You need a well fenced area and the dog may dig, so you may have to have the fencing run 18 inches or so into the ground. Sure hope you get him, though.

Congrats Dave!!! I know you have been waiting on this for a while! :) Sorry about the Walmart incident. I don't shop there because of their customer service.

Im glad the party was a hit. Sorry we couldnt make it, we were in Williamsburg on Saturday with the girlscouts at The Great Wolf Lodge.
Good luck with the dog. I hope it works out for you and the kids.

Congratulations, Dave!!!

Ditto Melissa regarding Walmart. I haven't been in there for several years, just because I've never had a good experience with their service. I'm so glad to hear that it all worked out to be a great party!

Congratulations...

Walmart around here is okay as far as having what you want when you need it.. BUT I don't think that they have enough cashiers on duty ever.. They have a whole mess load of registers but they never have more than five open on busy days.

By Crystal915 on Monday, May 8, 2006 - 02:28 pm:

Congrats!!! I bloodranked Nate, his CO actually said to me "Ma'am, you are not military, so you are free to hit him if you want!" with a wink. He's got scars from a few different pinnings, LOL! It's a pride moment... unfortunately it's a dying trend with the new ACUs (Velcro rank) for the Army. :( Anyway, sorry about the trouble with Walmart, I totally feel ya there!!!

I can laugh about the Walmart incident now but I didn't find it funny then. We are going tonight to return the left over unopened boxes of beer. I didn't think I could but the lady at 1800walmart said I could when I was filing the complaint. I'm going to take the refund money and put it towards a crate for Max, Jojo or Yoda what ever his name is, lol. They haven't decided on a name for him yet. The previous owners didn't come today and they haven't even called looking for him in 9 days he has been there, so we just have to get through tomorrow and he is all ours.

lol, Crystal. I was a little worried about how this command would react but they all found it funny. dh is big time into tradition and knew that they wouldn't do it because it is now considered hazing.

By Crystal915 on Monday, May 8, 2006 - 07:55 pm:

Well, to be honest all of the guys we know still do it, as long as the soldier is willing. They just do it a bit more discreetly. ;) Since DH is Infantry, I don't know anyone who hasn't offered himself up to blood ranking... they're big on that silly boy stuff.

By Mrsheidi on Monday, May 8, 2006 - 08:18 pm:

Congratulations to you and your DH! For him, a promotion is such a good feeling and, for you, for even surviving such a day!!!
You'll have to keep us posted on the dog!!! :-)

We've had no trouble returning stuff to our Walmart and that's about all we have ever needed as far as customer service, for the most part.

Once I asked an employee, who works in the electronics department, where a certain cd would be, since I had been unable to find it. He seemed put-upon, that he actually had to help a customer. Uhh, isn't that what they get paid to do?

By Kernkate on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 - 09:11 am:

Congrats to your DH:) And best of luck with your Jack Russell! I have Rusty (a Jack Russell) who is almost 2 and he drives me bonkers! He is just a nut and yes he is hyper and barks at everything when he is outside. They say after they are fixed they calm down, not in our Rusty's case.
Best of luck to your DH and also with your new pup.

Congrats to your dh!!

Thank You everyone :) Its still very strange to call and ask for Gunny instead of Staff Sergeant. I won't know anything about Max until tomorrow morning. I can pick him up tomorrow after 10 if all goes well. When I went by to see him today there still was not even so much as a call from his owners.
