Has anyone used this? I was recently put on steriods because I pulled my back and my skin is horrible.

By Marg on Friday, May 5, 2006 - 06:32 am:

A little pricey but dd (14) and dh(40) loves it.

They have the same skin problems.

I have used it for about 6 mos. I like it so far. I use to get really big, deep, painful pimples around my time of the month and I dont anymore. In the winter I did cut back to using the wash once a day, because my skin got so dry. Now I need to go back to using it 2x a day I think- as I have been sweaty and icky and am having more little pimples pop up. TMI , I know!! eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Oldest DD uses this and her skin is so clear (again). She never had breakouts as a teen, but once she was in her 20's, developed acne pretty bad. She's been using it for years with great results.

I know others who use it and love it as well.

LOVE, love, love Proactiv!!! I don't find it pricey at all, but what I used before was quite expensive so maybe that's why. It lasts so long that it's really not much more than store bought for the cleanser.

I started Proactiv about 3 years ago. Always had great skin, compliments, the whole nine yards. I miscarried and my face went CRAZY!!! After 4 mths. of agony and my original skincare line (Bioelements) seemed to be making things worse,my sis recomended Proactiv. (SHe's always had skin probs) I tried it through QVC and I've been happy ever since.

I originaly bought the whole kit, because my face was awful at the time. I cleared up in about 2 weeks or so, and the more I used it the more I sort of customized it for me. After about 3mths., I stopped using all the extras, and now use the renewing cleanser one time a day, the eye serum at night, and the moisturizer when I need it. (I tend to stay pretty balanced, but sometimes nee dthe moisturizer during the winter.) I keep the Repairing lotion on hand (had the same bottle for over a year) for any blemishes that start to appear from time to time. It gets rid of it right away. I have a tendency to get a pimple on my chin during my period, so now I just rub the repairing lotion all over my chin during period week and that problem is gone.

I also keep the sulphur mask around, but it's really jsut left over from before. If you do get a large blemish or one that doesn't seem to want to go away, you can just spot treat it with the sulphur mask and it really helps.

I highly recommend it! I was bawling for 4 mths. because I didn't want to leave the house. This is gross, but after the miscarriage I had pimples all over my scalp, neck, and all over my back. Not just whitehead, pop 'em pimples, but gross, large things that never developed fully. I actually bought the deep cleansing body wash at that time and it worked wonders on my neck and back. (I would sit in the tub and let DH scrub me down...he's an angel!) You can also use that on your face, so if I run out or something I can use it get me through until my new stuff arrives.

My OTHER sister tried it for her bad skin and complained about it because she said it didn't work. She used it ONE WEEK! I would say, at least for me and how bad I was, it took about 2 weeks for me to start seeing changes and maybe 4 weeks for totally clear and back to my normal self. That was 3 years and it's jsut so great I'm not planning to change. My pores are so small, my skin is always exfoliated, and it's totally not expensive in my view.

Good luck and sorry for rambling!

I found the AcneFree brand you can buy at Walmart works better, however my doc prescribed a 5% benzoyl peroxide (twice as strong as proactive) with a clindamyacin (sp) lotion, and it's been much more effective. Good luck!!

I use it and like it. I tried the Wal-Mart version for a few months and it did not work for me. I tried over the counter stuff and it did not work. So I went back to Proactive and it took a couple of months to kick in and now my face looks better.

(I've also done Accutane 2x and the topical stuff for me is like aftercare.)

my youngest DD uses it and it works for her better then anything else. Her boyfriend and his mom had tried it and it never worked for them. They have the type of face that has pitts from the bad acne. They both go to a dermatologist and get shots but, I don't know what the shot is and it helped. It is pricey but, I have it set so we only get it every 6 months.
She tried the store bought kind from walmart and it didn't help.
Yes, it takes a few weeks of using it to see results. We just keep it in the shower so she remembers to use it.

Cortisone shots are for cystic acne, I have had to get one at the ER because my face swelled up really bad with a couple outbreaks.

Thanks for the input! I'm sorry it took so long to respond. I think I will bite the bullet and purchase it.

Deanna- the situation you went through is what I am going through now. I never had acne like this when I was teenager. It's just so gross. I am breaking out in all the same spots. I thought I was a freak. I guess my hormones are trying to balance themselves out.

Isn't it the worst feeling????!! I know how you feel! I did NOT want to leave the house, and that was before my dd came along so I was teaching.

I have no idea what would happen if I went back to my original skincare line (which I always loved before). Maybe it would be fine, but I'm not taking any chances since I love Proactiv. I don't do facials anymore either, a)because I'm on one income LOL, but mostly because b)I'm too scared to change anything skinwise!!

I hope the Proactiv works for you and you get things resolved soon. :)

Both of my DS's (17 and 18) have used ProActive, and it has worked VERY well for them, when they use it consistently :). (Boys aren't too fussy about that stuff). A dermatologist once told me that it is a VERY effective product. That it is pharmaceutical grade, and was formulated by a pair of dermatologists.
I don't find it terribly pricey. You can specify how often you want the product sent. It comes in a nice little kit: cleanser, toner and lotion, or you can buy the products separately.

I know! I don't want to leave the house sometimes! I just get so upset. DH has been wonderful but still, I never had skin like this before.

Thanks everyone!
