Anyone from Cincinnati or lived there/in the area?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: Anyone from Cincinnati or lived there/in the area?

DH has applied to Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati. He was offered a job there once before (just out of college)but we took another one. This is one of our first applications that's not within an hour or so of us, so I'm just doing a little real estate research.

I'm finding area listings for Cincinnati like Batavia, Fairfield,Hamilton, Hyde Park...the list goes on, but I really don't know where any of those are in relationship to the actual location of where he would work if he got a job there. I'd like to see what's available real estate wise but really don't know where to look for that area. I know we would not want to be more than 30min. from work.

Anyone have experience/lived in the Cincinnati area? I would REALLY appreciate your help!:)

I think Michelle (Happynerdmom) lives in that area. Giving you a bump in hopes that she'll see it.:)

We moved from Cincy about 3 years ago. I LOVED it. The city parks are AMAZING! They have several indoor parks, like an indoor tree house, and indoor farm (look up hamilton county parks). It really depends which p&g he will be working for. They do have a down town office, but most of their buildings are a bit north of the "loop". Hyde park is just north of downtown, further north you get mason and west chester (lies in between I75 and I 71), kind of in between those areas are symmes township, sycamore and blue ash.

Fairfield is north east (north of the loop). I think Hamilton is south of the loop. Batavia I have heard of, but isn't anywhere close to those areas.

Mason I where kings island is, we lived there. I adored it. 45040 is the zip if you are looking for houses. It is a touch cheaper, but a little further out. It was 15 minutes from kings island to 275.

Feel free to email me....registerme at houston dot rr dot com

Thanks for the bumps :) and Kaye, can I file away your email address? It sounds like you would be a GREAT resource if we're going to that area. (We're keeping our fingers crossed)

It's hard to tell on a map how far the little towns are from P&G. We would want to be west of the city if possible. I looked at Prince Hill today (just researching, no real reason), and everything for sale is O-L-D and in a neighborhood. Very cute old houses, but not what we would want by choice I guess.

We've been to Cinci several times and really liked it, but as far as real places go, I know nothing about it.
Gotta go...bathtime is over!:)

drop me an email and I will resend you the email i check regularly :)

Probably one of the big deals you want to look at is TAXES. If he is working downtown, you could live in KY and not pay state taxes. Prince Hill is NOT where you want to live, not safe at all.

Okay, I kind of gathered that from the real estate!!LOL It kind of looked like Detroit (where my sister lives) and I thought 'yikes.' I just sort-of picked a spot on the map and started looking. That was a wrong choice! :) Interesting on the taxes.Hhhmmmm.

I'm going to look at the Mason area tomorrow, just because you lived there. :) If you remember and don't mind me asking, what was your property taxes like when you lived there? Or if you don't mind and you'd rather, you could share it via email. I'll send you an email so I can get your return at least. Thank you alot!

I have never lived nor even been to Cincinnati, but have always had a fascination with it for some reason. I can vividly remember being 4 or 5 years old and pretending like I was driving to Cincy. As an adult I have had an ongoing fascination with Ohio because everyone I have ever met from Ohio has been really nice. maybe one day!

Good luck with the job search! Has your DH given up on PT school for now?

By Reds9298 on Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 07:14 am:

Yes, Pam, he has. It really just is not possible. He is trying to get back into his original field (biology-related), but after doing engineering for 8 years (and really excelling!) he is a bit of strange fit for most jobs he's interested in. Not to mention sometimes the pay is no where NEAR what he makes now.

Kaye-I sent you two emails, but I got a return on one of them. Did you get one from me?

By Happynerdmom on Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 07:48 am:

I'm here, Deanna! :) Yes, I am from Cincy and live here now. Feel free to email me! (I think it's in my profile.)

Pam, come visit!! I would love to meet you and show you around our great city! :)

By Kaye on Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 08:06 am:

yes I got it...i will get back to you later, gotta go take a test this am!

By Reds9298 on Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 08:43 pm:

Thank you to you both!
