Baby Rescued from Burning Van

Child Resued from Van at Alpine Speedway (better pictures and video here)

Now, I am certainly not suggesting that fire was the result of this woman's carelessness, although it could be said that she should not have been driving a vehicle that she was aware had serious mechanical problems. It may have been the only transportation she had.

But putting the fire aside for a moment, consider that in this day and age there are still people careless enough to leave their keys in the ignition, their wallet (and cell phone) in the vehicle, and SOMEONE ELSE'S BABY INSIDE the vehicle alone just to go pay for gas.

There are thieves that wait outside gas stations looking for people who leave their keys in the car while they go inside to pay. Leaving her wallet in the vehicle was foolish enough. Leaving the keys in the ignition was dangerous as well. Leaving the BABY in the vehicle was just plain insanity.

I suppose she has learned her lesson. I have to think that she went to the bathroom after getting the baby out b/c she was so embarassed.

Good grief. I always took my babies inside with me! DH didn't always and that always bothered me. He would lock the car. Although, our cars were never on the verge of bursting into flames, either, though!

I always paid at the pump so i didn't have to take the kids out of the car. I would never leave them in the car to go pay!

btw, if your car was smoking and was about to catch fire, would you grab your cell phone and keys and diaper bag....or would you grab your friend's baby and get away from that car as fast as you could? I would get the baby and run for it! That's like going back into a burning house for something stupid.

Some people are just so dumb!

I don't know if paying at the pump was an option, when my kids were little. I can't remember when that started. I only started paying at the pump recently. I think I would have liked that option when my kids were little. Or maybe I thought you always needed a credit card and I usually wanted to pay cash. I use my debit card now. I love paying at the pump.

Dawn, you are right, i don't think it was an option then. I think it is a fairly new thing.

Or maybe you had to have the special card from the gas station, which we never did. When my kids were very young, we lived in central WI. There was a farm who processed their milk and sold it, right on their farm. It was cheaper than the grocery store, so that is where we usually bought our milk. They had a drive-up window, for buying that milk! I loved it!

I'm glad we now have the option to pay at the pump. I use it all the time. Actually, if a gas station doesn't have one that takes credit card, I don't fill up there. It's rather difficult to take both kids out of the car and go pay inside, while watching all ways to cross over to the little window to pay. Because I only pay at the pump and not all stations have this option for cc, I make sure I gas up when I get down to a quarter of a tank of gas.
