Tonsilitis

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Tonsilitis

Has anyone ever had this? My DH got it, went to the doctor and was diagnosed. He finished his round of antibiotics today and it's still there! Swelling has gone down a little bit, but it's still tender, VERY red on one side, and there are still large sores on that side of his throat. I know it's gross!

Poor guy...until 4 months ago he's been a lab rat in a clean room for his job for 8 yrs. Since he got moved to a "regular" work environment, he's been sick 4x in 4 months, including an ugly stomach bug, 2 BAD sinus infections, and now tonsilitis!

He's going to try to get in the doc first thing Monday morning. What's up? The antibiotic barely touched it.

It could be a peritonsilar abscess (basically a pocket of pus somewhere in the affected tonsil) which would require incision, drainage and more antibiotics.

Yikes! I hope not.

Also could be that he had strep, and/or the antibiotic he was on was not strong enough. What was he taking?

Hope he feels better soon.

Karen- That's what we assumed, that the antibiotic was just not strong enough. It just barely even touched it though, really, and since neither of us have had this before we thought it was strange.

He was on 1500mg of Amoxicillin daily for 10-12 days I think.

Thanks Conni!

Have you called the doctor back? He may need to be on Augmentin or something like that. Hope he starts to feel better!
