Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Last Day of School
By Dawnk777 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:01 pm:

We have 28 days of school left, and are done on June 9th. We have a 4-day weekend over Memorial Day.

On June 10th, we leave on vacation! It's all going to over with so fast, yet go so slow, if you know what I mean!

By Vicki on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:42 pm:

Our last day is May 26th and it can't come fast enough for me. LOL I am worse then dd!!

By Jackie on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:51 pm:

I think the kids here get out June 16th. It is always exciting counting down the days until vacation, although time does stand still, or so it seems.

By Mommmie on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:57 pm:

My son gets out May 18. I'm ready!!

By Conni on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:58 pm:

May 26th here and I cant wait!!! My kids are already counting down.

Whats funny is we get out of school and then I start some summer courses 4 days later. Brandon has football practice everyday of the summer again, he also has drivers ed for 3 weeks (i think- i find out more this afternoon)... Blake is playing baseball and brad is doing nothing!! lol Well, he is going to do kids college for a few days at the end of july.

Anyway, it may not feel like much of a break to my soon to be 9th grader. That was the point of my post! But I ended up rambling... :)

By Tripletmom on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 01:27 pm:

My DD finishes June 30-

When does a new year at school in the U.S.A. start? This year my DD started Sept 8 and finishes last day of June. I didn't realize the school times were so different

By Trina~moderator on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 01:33 pm:

My kids get out June 16. Last year they didn't get out until 6/29 because we had so many snow days to make up.

Tripletmom, school in my district starts the last week of August. School calendars differ depending on the area and climate, etc.. Some districts are on "tracks" and go to school year round with breaks every so many weeks.

By Mommmie on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 01:36 pm:

We go back August 21 and will get out the 3rd week in May again.

By Debbie on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:02 pm:

We get out June 2nd. Yea!!!! They will start at their new school on Aug. 23rd.

By Kernkate on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:03 pm:

Our kids get out June 7th, we have a mini vacation on May 17,18 and 19. They were snowdays figured into the calendar that we didn't use. Then we go back the end of August. Can't wait for summer vacation:)

By Bellajoe on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:14 pm:

Ds's last day of preschool is May 26 but has to miss his "End of Year Picnic" because we will be traveling to Montreal for a wedding that day :(

Dd gets out June 9th

Am I the only one that is not excited about them getting out of school? I love my kids and all, but school keeps them busy. Staying home everyday during the summer they get bored and just fight the whole time.
Of course i do look forward to taking them to the pool a lot this summer!

By Tink on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:19 pm:

Year-round school gets out on June 23rd this year. Of course, they start back up right after July 4th but we'll be in a traditional district next fall so they won't go back until the beginning of September (I think! Better find out).

Patti, I'm a little nervous about summer break this year since it's the longest I'll have had all three kids home in four years! I'm afraid we'll end up with lots of bickering and "I'm boo-oored!"s. I just plan on trying to keep them as busy as possible and sticking to a daily schedule.

By Conni on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:22 pm:

We go back Aug 20-something? I dont want to think about it right now. lol

By Colette on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:41 pm:

We get out June 16th and go back the last week of August.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 02:48 pm:

We started the day after Labor Day. Looks like it was September 6th, 2005. We get out June 9th.

I love not having school, because I don't have to get up at 6 in the morning!

We go on our summer vacation on June 10th already.

Emily has horse camp from June 25th to July 1st.

Sarah has mission trip the 3rd week in July. So, it's a busy summer already for us!

Also, June 18th to June 21st, Sarah is hoping to be at a summer nursing camp at a school of nursing about an hour north of us. We find out today, if she was selected or not. It's free, so I hope she was. They get to shadow a nurse, see the rescue helicopter, learn CPR and they get to bring a set of scrubs home!

By Conni on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 03:03 pm:

Dawn, that is really cool about the nursing camp! I have never heard of that around here. :) Let us know is she is selected! The horse camp sounds right up my alley. I hope you can get some pic's of that to share on the board! :) Does Emily do English riding or Western riding lessons? They mostly teach English lessons around here.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 03:43 pm:

Emily signed up for English lessons! She went to the same camp last year and LOVED it. It's about 2-1/2 hours away from here. Kids come from all over the US to this camp! She had one girl from California, in her cabin. The others were from northern Illinois. I guess for a few days, she can masquerade as a rich kid, huh? LOL!

I just checked the mail and it isn't here yet. I wouldn't have opened the envelope for Sarah anyway. I would have let Sarah do it! She'll have to wait until she gets home to check the mail. Our mail comes soon.

My kids school year round. They will take off the month of July and then start right back up again. We choose to take off two months in the winter, because we like to vacation then and it isn't too hot for them to enjoy their "break".

By Amy~moderator on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 04:02 pm:

Yjja - are your kids home-schooled? Just curious.

Dawn - sounds like a busy, but FUN summer you guys have planned! Crossing fingers that your daughter gets picked for camp!!! :)

By Yjja123 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 04:43 pm:

Yes, we homeschool.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 04:46 pm:

From the Bellin College website:

To apply:

Students must be in their Junior year of high school during the 2005-2006 school year

Submit an application and (2) reference forms by the April 8th deadline. Participants will be selected based upon information submitted on the application and the recommendations of the references. All students will be notified of selection via a letter by April 30th.

We didn't get anything today. We'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon now! LOL!

By Conni on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 05:37 pm:

Oh man thats a bummer.

By Debbie on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 07:05 pm:

Dawn, I hope she gets in. It sounds really neat.

I actually love summer! I always have. I am lucky that my boys don't fight often, so I really enjoy having them home with me. I like not having a routine and being able to do whatever we want. We have just enough things planned to break up the summer, so I know it will go by way too fast. I just wish we didn't have the pain of moving in June. whine...whine

By Annie2 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 11:27 pm:

My kids get out May 19th then head back the first week in August.

By Kaye on Saturday, April 29, 2006 - 07:57 am:

My kiddos get out may 26 and we go back super early this year...aug 8. YIKES! The upside, it really is just to hot to do anything by then. We also get a full week off at turkey day, 2 weeks at Christmas and many other days off.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, April 29, 2006 - 04:29 pm:

We got the letter from the College and Sarah got in! She hopes her friend got accepted too. She will find that out later tonight. And in a few days she will recieve a package in the mail for more information.

By Conni on Saturday, April 29, 2006 - 05:57 pm:

WOOHOOOOOO!!! Congrats Sarah, hope you have a blast!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, April 29, 2006 - 07:01 pm:

She recently talked to her friend on the phone and her friend was picked, too. They are both very happy! In a few days, we will get a packet and there must be some way for them to request a room together. They get to stay in a dorm room, while they are gone!
