New house--Tomorrow! :)

We close tomorrow! Dh and I went by there last night and we have no idea how they're going to be done in time! lol There are so many little things that have to be fixed and they really don't worry me. It's the things like putting in medicine cabinets that there aren't even holes for (they forgot) and the glass shower door they forgot to install (put up a shower curtain rod instead). There's a step that needs to be replaced on the stairs to the basement that will have to have time to set and then be painted and then dry. I gotta say, if they finish everything we'll be impressed! We feel like Extreme Home Makeover--"12 hours until the family comes home!" rofl

On a good note, we've been moving things upstairs from the basement and we've almost gotten everything up and in the garage so when we do close we'll be ready to move. The kids beds, one dresser each, a love seat and the washer and dryer are really the only big things left down there. The rest is little things (towels, some stuff in their closets, some dvds, etc). Everything else is on the main floor anyway. I'm hoping we can get all the big stuff moved Thursday because it's supposed to rain Friday. Robin has a dr's appointment Thursday afternoon that will throw a kink in things, but maybe dh can get a friend to help him. We'll only be gone about and hour and a half anyway.

So if I'm mia for a few days, you guys will know why. At least I use a laptop so I won't have to set up my computer! :)

Congrats!!! How exciting!

Good luck with everything. I will be thinking of you, and hoping everything goes smoothly.

Cat, I know your excited and ready to go, but just a word of caution. Do not close until everything is the way that you want it. I know you want to trust your builder to do the right thing, but a friend of mine is going through a nightmare right now because they closed before they were happy with everything. They are now (2 years later) involved in a lawsuit with their builder to get things fixed. They are having major problems and the builder has long been paid, so he is in no rush to make things right for them. They are even having fights going on about things that were supposed to be under warranty. We had a home inspector come through our house before we signed off on it to make sure that all work was done correctly. I told her that we had done that (he found 3 things we had fixed) but they were in a time crunch and didn't do it. She has a leaky basement and a bad roof job and many other things that he would have likely caught. She had what she thought was a great builder who was doing most of the subdivision she moved to and she had references that she checked out. She is just one of the poor nightmare stories that most builders have at least one of. LOL I am not trying to scare you, but if they are rushing through the last details, things might not be done up to your standards. Don't sign until they are!!!

Thanx, everyone. :)

Don't worry, Vicki. We won't close until they are completely finished. We had friends that their builder (not the same builder we're using) wanted them to close before a few things were done including the brick on the front of the house because it was back ordered. They refused and ended up waiting more than a month for the builder to finish (they even had to order different rock). Imagine how long it would have taken the builder if they'd closed without that stuff being done. They've been in their house for over 2 years and I'll be they still wouldn't be finished (we've heard horror stories about that builder). They keep telling us it will be finished. We'll see... :)

So exciting, Cat!!! Has your dh put up pictures of the nearly-finished house or are you going to make us wait for them?:)

Dh has all the pictures on his computer. I'll have to get some on mine so I can post them. Or I can get him to update his space! He hasn't done that for a while. They'll be up soon. :)
