Do I have a SERIOUS problem.....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Do I have a SERIOUS problem.....
By Reds9298 on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 09:00 pm:

..because I take sooooooo many photos of my dear child?? I mean I normally take lots of pictures (maybe 60-70/mth., is that weird?) but during the month of April I have taken (and kept)....okay sit down .....116 photos, 12 digital videos, plus some on my video camcorder.

Do I need a support group for this problem??:)

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 09:06 pm:

:) Count me in too! Maybe not that many, but I'm up there with at least 30 pics or videos a month. He even has his own special "folder" on the computer!

By Reds9298 on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 09:33 pm:

LOL! Yes, Natalie does, too! I organize them by month. What do you do?

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 09:49 pm:

I need help here, for taking pictures of the dog! LOL! We are often taking pictures of Jasmine!

We took 300+ pictures in Niagara Falls last year. We'll see how many we bring home from South Dakota this year!

By Heaventree on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 11:02 pm:

Oh Boy, I've really got it bad, because I've got 2 boys, plus a dog and a cat!

Here is how I organzie mine:

Pictures/Year/Month

Videos/Year/Month

I had a seperate folder for the Dog but it was getting too hard to manage.

I would say that I average about 30 photos a months and maybe 3 videos.

By Marcia on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 11:22 pm:

Well ladies, I could be the head of the group. I take hundreds of pics every month. I took close to 400 in FL. I sort them by month on the computer, and every month I burn a cd. It's absolutely my obsession of choice. :)

By Christylee on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 12:28 am:

I'm there with Marcia, I took 165 at the Kenny Chesney concert last night. I've already wore out one digital camera with 10,000 pictures in a year and a half. We've had mom's new camera a little over a month and we're already at about 1000 at least.

Now I don't print all of them of course and not all of them will be ones that are saved but I'd say about 3/4 of them are. I LOVE taking pictures!

I sort mine the same way as Marcia and then at the end of the year they all go in one folder for that year with the subfolders.

Deanna take as many pictures as you need or want Natalie will be big before you know it i wish i would of taken more when my boys were little = ( but now i'm takeing them more = ) and i'm also getting my nieces and nephew in there too... = )

By Tripletmom on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 09:06 am:

I've never taken so many pics.I get from 150 to 200 pics developed a month.I delete tons.I try to get pics of the boys separate and together and also big sister Katie and the animals.I dont have enough pics of the kids and myself.I have to ask my DH to start picking up the camera.

By Marcia on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 09:17 am:

I don't develop the pics as I take them. I choose what I want for making scrapbooks as I'm making them, and either print or have them developed at that time.

By Andi on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 10:38 am:

Well I have some of you beat...from Easter, the Flower Fields and the Strawberry Fields I took and kept about 215!!!! Now I have to decide what ones I am going to use in the family album. :)

By Nicki on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 12:52 pm:

I'm in this group, too! And it's hard for me to imagine life before the digital camera. What a great invention!

By Reds9298 on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 01:46 pm:

We're a picture taking bunch aren't we?
I also sort mine by month and back them up at the end of each month on cd. (I'm obsessed, too, Marcia!) I delete so many and still have at least 60/mth. I think through the spring & summer months though it's going to be over 100 each month, without special events!

For vacations, we usually take at least 200 pics. Our European trips were around 400+.

I develop mine about 2x/mth through snapfish. I order doubles or enlargements for the ones I want to scrapbook.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!!!:)

One of the best purchases I ever made was buying a 1GB memory card! :)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 02:50 pm:

We just bought 2 1gb memory cards! The last time I backed up my picture folder, I sorted things by year. I usually date my pics, when I download them. It really helps me.

Sarah is sorting hers by year, up on her computer, too. We are starting to use Picasa for keeping our pics organized.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 02:51 pm:

Reds, are you backing up all those pictures on a dvd or cd-rom. You wouldn't want to lose them if the hard-drive crashed.

By Heaventree on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 03:46 pm:

Ok I just downloaded the last bunch off my camera for the month of April. This is a record for me for sure, 120 photos. Can you tell I got a new camera. :)

By Heaventree on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 03:47 pm:

Oh and Cameron will be baptized this weekend so I guess April really will be a record month!

By Reds9298 on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 07:08 pm:

Dawn-Yes, I back them up with online photo storage AND cd-rom at the end of each month. I even keep a double copy of the cd's in a safe deposit box! VERY OCD about it!:)

By Enchens on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 08:21 pm:

Oh, goodness. Click away! I remember when ds was born 3 years ago, my dh and my mom took a whole roll of pictures...in 1 day! Each!!! Then dh went out and bought the digital camera. Wow! And I'm sooo glad he did.

By Sandysmom on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 10:20 pm:

I don't have a digital camera yet, but when i do, I will be joining this club. And even though we don't have a digital camera, I am constantly turning in rolls of film.

By Wandilu on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 11:35 pm:

Oh Ladies!!! I am sooooo with yall on this!!!I can't even begin to know how many pictures I have of my family.Especially since I have digital now.I even have pictures of my best friends and I when we were very young teenagers, and we're in our 50's now( MAN ,that still sounds weird to say!!).My youngest DD,who is 28,told me the other day that she loves the fact that she has her whole life in pictures. But,she got a little "crazy" the other day when I told her I wanted to take a picture of her at her job at the hospital so I could put it beside her kindergarten picture!!

By Tripletmom on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 - 09:45 am:

Another great memory saver with the pictures are letters.Every year on her B-day I write a letter to her.I talk about the past year and what we did.I put my favorite B-day picture with it and put it away.I have 7 letters now.Her 1st letter I put in a time capsule and shes allowed to open it on her 16th B-day.It was weird to write happy 16th B-day.My DH and I both cried when we wrote our letters.Everyone told us to enjoy her b/c it goes so fast, and it does.I'm glad I have all her letters.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 - 10:01 am:

Actually, Reds, backing up once a month is something we should be doing! I reformatted my computer about a month ago and I backed up about a year's worth of pictures, if not more than that! LOL! Bad, I know! My "my pictures" folder was way out of control!

By Marcia on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 - 02:14 pm:

Sherri, I write to my girls, too. I started Nicole's the day we found out about her. Meghan's was started the day I found out I was pregnant. Kayla's was started when we started the visiting process with her. I write in them whenever the mood hits me, or when big events occur.

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 - 03:30 pm:

The letter idea is really neat! I actually have kept a journal for Natalie since the day we found out we were pregnant, so that's similar I guess. I'm big on journaling (still keep my own diary!), so I really enjoy writing "to her" in the journals for her.

I like the birthday idea though....although I'm a major scrapbook nerd so I'm scrapping tons of stuff anyway. I journal alot in my scrap pages. The letter is really personal though. What a nice keepsake for her when she's older!
