Speaking of teeth

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Speaking of teeth
By Jackie on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 09:50 am:

I had gum surgery done on Monday. It was called soft graft replacement. Basically I have bad recession in certain areas and this is to help keep the teeth. I have inherited gum problems from my mother and aunt, but only Im getting them taken care of much earlier then them, so I can keep my teeth. LOL
He took skin off the top of my mouth(in 2 places) and used that for the graphs. I had my first ever valium before the surgery. Although it wasnt exactly Valium but the one that started with an H. I cant remember then name. I suppose it did makeme relaxed, but not fall asleep. I was in the chair for about 90 miniutes. 3 days later Im still sore and swollen. I also have a mouth full of stitiches. I have a follow up on Monday and hopefully he will remove stitches.I have had other gum surgeries but I will say this soreness is lasting longer.
He sent me home with 4 prescriptions, one for Vicodin, one for 600 mg of Ibprofin(Spelled wrong)one for Amoxicillin and one for a mouth rinse.
I will say this is not how I would like to enjoy spring break with the kids. The kids are enjoying the fact I cant open my mouth too much to yell at them :)
Anybody ever have a surgery like this?

I haven't heard of it either...
you poor thing! :( I hope you feel better soon!

My X had this done, upper and lower gums. Apparently he was in a lot of pain, and his sounds like it was a bit more extensive than yours, because they actually did some bone implants too.

I feel for ya! ANYthing in your mouth HURTS! Hope you feel better soon.

Karen, I had only 3 specific areas that this needed to be done on. About 9 yrs ago, I did have a bone replacement as well in the back area with the back teeth. I can say this recovery is more painful then that one.

Jackie, are you feeling any relief? Thinking of you :)

Annie, thanks for asking. I will say recovery is slower then previous gum surgeries I have had. Although, Ive never had this type before. My mouth is still sore, expecially when I wake up in the morning. I do ok during the day when Im taking the motrin. By night it seems , my mouth gets sore, and I do take a pain pill before bed. The stitches on the top of mouth are started to itch. Hopefully all the stitches will come out on Monday.

OUCH! That gives me goosebumps to hear. I have a huge fear of needing something like that. I'm a big enough baby about going to the dentist under *good* circumstances.

I bet you can't wait till Monday!
