Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Ancestry search websites...
By Mom2three1968 on Sunday, April 9, 2006 - 10:32 pm:

Does anyone know of websites that are free for checking for someone through the social security death index? I am trying to locate my great grandparents using only their last name and date of death. My birth uncle can't remember their first names and would like to know. Also has anyone had anything good to report for using ancestry.com? I would like to join but am wondering if it is worth the money...

I know my family used geneology.com and ancestry.com with some success... however we were using it to connect 10+ generations back, and had quite a bit of information to work with. Good luck, we've traced our geneology back to the Scrooby, England, and William Brewster, who was one of the founding members on the Mayflower. It's really quite interesting once the pieces fall into place.

Sorry I don't know how to type it in to just hit it.

If it doesn't come up, I'll try it again.

I do not like the idea you can just pull up someone who is passed away's social security number. It just bothers me.

I hope this helps.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I think this is free. Dh has looked up info on this site. I believe you can even go to the local churches and look up info.
