Movie Suggestions?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Movie Suggestions?
By Heaventree on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 05:57 pm:

DH is away traveling again, it's been a long day, I haven't watched a movie in months and months and it's too late to go to the video store. So I'm stuck with Pay Per View. Here's what's on at 9:00 pm.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Saw II
Lord of War
Elizabethtown
The Fog
Jarhead
Zarthura
Just Like Heaven
Doom
Proof

Anyone seen any of these movies, suggestions, likes/dislikes?

TIA

Zarthura was cool if you liked Jumanju (very similar). Lord of War was good, but long if I remember right. Nicholas Cage did a great job in it. (I just checked--it's 122min) Corpse Bride doesn't even interest me, but I don't really go for that kind of movie. I'm sure it's good if you do. I caught a little of Doom the other day (dh was watching it) and it looked good. It looked highly sci-fi. Are you sure you'd want to watch something like Saw II when you're going to be home alone??? lol I haven't seen the rest (or heard of half of them). Good luck and have fun!

We watched "Just Like Heaven" on PPV last weekend. Chick flick :)

The only other movie on your list I've seen is "Zathura". The whole family liked it.

Elizabethtown, Jarhead, Just Like Heaven and Proof are all on my "To See" list. I haven't heard the best reviews on Jarhead and Proof but both are subjects that interest me. Just Like Heaven and Elizabethtown are chick flicks. I'll see Elizabethtown just for the Orlando Bloom eye candy and Jarhead has Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal.:) Let us know what you pick and what you think of it, ok?

By Pamt on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 07:52 pm:

Elizabethtown was booorrring (and I love chick flicks!) and Just Like Heaven did nothing for more either. It was merely mediocre. I've heard excellend things about Proof, but haven't seen it yet.

I have always wanted to see Proof. I love Anthony Hopkins.

Jarheads was terrible, both dh and I sat through it waiting for something to happen. I have heard terrible things about Elizabethtown. I did see Just Like Heaven, and it didn't do anything for me either, and I love Mark Raphalo(sp?)
I have heard good things about Proof and Doom, but haven't seen either one of them.

I watched Zarthura, well most of it anyway. I didn't like the Lizzards so I missed the end. I didn't really like it. It was missing something, it was just one event after another with no real reason for each event. Oh well.

Probably should have watched Proof, next time.

I watched In Her Shoes tonight, with Cameron Diaz and Shirley Maclaine. I loved it. Definitely a chick flick about relationships and dysfunctional families. The extra features were entertaining as well.

Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine "all deserve Oscars®"(WCBC-TV) for their hilarious and moving performances in "the most rewarding family comedy since Terms of Endearment." (New York Magazine) Flirty, flaky party girl Maggie (Diaz) and plain, dependable lawyer Rose (Collette) are sisters, best friends and bitter rivals who seem to have only two things in common: DNA and size 8 1/2 feet. Only when their love-hate relationship veers towards the hate end of the spectrum do they accidentally discover they also share a long-lost grandmother (MacLaine) who enriches their lives and helps them make peace with each other—and themselves!

Proof was really good. Elizabethtown was cute - but it wasn't anything *great*. Jarhead was OK. The Fog is a remake - I saw the original a bazillion years ago, if you like that kind of movie, it should be good.

Just like Heaven was awesome. Chick flick but really good. I cried and laughed all the way through.

We loved Just Like Heaven! Saw it in the theater a few months ago.
We rented In Her Shoes, but didn't have time to watch it. Maybe we'll have to get it again.
