Funny how learning just happens

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Funny how learning just happens
By Enchens on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 02:54 pm:

I had written earlier that my boys wanted me to "homeschool." I told them we would do school stuff over the summer.

Well, talk about things just happening. Friday, our front yard flooded. One of the sprinkler valves burst (it was underground so imagine the mess!).

In the process of cleaning up, my older son saw some worms. "Mommy, save the worms!" So the cleanup effort became a rescue effort. 30 worms were saved. Yay!

Now what to do with them. Well, thanks to these kiddos who observe and retain everything, they said, "let's compost. No, let's make a wormery." So, can you guess what we did?

I love it!

Hey Enchens how hard is it to make a wormery or a compost container? I've always wanted to do that. Is there an easy way or is it costly?

By Enchens on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 12:50 pm:

Found this for the wormery.

Enchens,
I've been away and kind of out of touch. We had a small compost set-up when my little guy was in pre-school. When we moved to the mountains, someone had set up a compost pile on the property. They produce amazing amounts of composted soil. Great your kids are on board for this. We all learned a lot.
They have all sizes and prices of composting bins etc. Check with your local 4 H, agriculture groups etc. for help and cheap or free equipment.

Thanks, Linda. Dh isn't on board, unfortunately, so the composting project has been put on hold. Maybe one day...

Definitely helps to have the partner on board!
