Winter weather

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Winter weather
By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 07:35 pm:

We've already had about 20 inches of snow, already, since December 1st. We are supposed to get 3-5 inches of snow tonight and Thursday into Friday, we could get 6-12. Can you say a repeat of last year's 80 inches? Yikes, and it's not even officially winter yet.

We are going to be missing out knitting group on Thursday, since it sounds like it will already be snowing, in the evening. Shoot. I hate not going to my knitting group. Sarah's home now, and she would have liked to go, too. Then, we'll miss next week, since it's Christmas. The owner of the shop, thought she might have the group, on New Year's Day night, though, since she'll be there anyway. The shop is right on her farm. We would be home that night, too.

We are under a winter weather warning until noon tomorrow I believe.... snow for now and then ice starting about midnight... I can handle snow, but ice on the roads scares me to death!!

By Colette on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 08:13 pm:

People still have no power from the ice storm last Thursday and there are trees and power lines down everywhere. I went grocery shopping today and I felt so bad for the people that were there buying food for one day. We have 3 storms coming, tonight, Friday and Sunday. I am so grateful that I never lost my power.

Ice is horrible! Ugh.

Yikes. 35 would be a heat wave, right now! Actually, it was in the 40's on Sunday, but in the 20's now. Yesterday it was only in the single digits.

We got about 3-4 inches overnight and another 6+ for Friday. Not good for all these people without power. Some schools are closed until 1/5/09!

I can try to do that, on Friday morning, if we get the big snow. I have to work at the clinic in the afternoon, but not in the morning. Last night's little snow wasn't really picture worthy. I didn't have time anyway.

By Debbie on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 - 05:18 pm:

It has been so cold here lately that when we hit 35 today it felt warm!!! That is just sad

By Momofmax on Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 08:58 pm:

Send some cold weather down here to N.O.!

By Colette on Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 09:17 pm:

we are getting 8-12+ tomorrow and another snow and ice storm on Sunday. there are still people without power from last thursday.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 11:49 pm:

We are still in an area slated to get 8-12 inches, plus some lake-effect snow, after that. As of 10:45pm, it has not started snowing yet. We thought we'd miss our knit night, but we went anyway, since we could still see stars. By the time we left 2 hours later, the clouds were thick (around 9pm), but still no snow quite yet.

We could even get thundersnow, similar to a summer thunderstorm, which has updrafts and fast cloud formation and could bring us 2-3 inches an hour, of snow! I almost don't want to sleep. I want to watch it snow! Although, snow during the nght and especially heavy from 6am to 9am, will probably get us the snow day.

We are under a winter storm warning until 11 tonight for 8-12 inches of the white stuff! They are saying an inch or more an hour. BLAH
It just started snowing here in NE PA, schools have shut down already. This is our 6th snow day the school has used already. Then storms again on Sunday and Christmas Eve.

By Bellajoe on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 08:55 am:

We keep getting these winter storm warnings but never actually get a significant amount of snow. We maybe got 2 inches last night. Plus lots of sleet and freezing rain. It's just an ugly black and white world out there right now. I need some sunshine!

I do hope it snows on Christmas Eve. We have had green Christmases for the past few years.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 09:48 am:

We got a significant amount of snow. Gary will be out there a while, with his snowblower, once he gets up. I shoveled the porch, because I could barely get the door open. I would think about 8-9 inches. There is so much drifting that it's hard to tell. Emily got a snow day, as did pretty much every other kid in southeastern WI.
