WHAT A GREAT DAY!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: WHAT A GREAT DAY!
By Dana on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 08:27 am:

Okay, I have been so bummed out this "winter." We had a cold snap begin on Oct 31 and several more cold days since then. We've been using the heater and everything. I've even had ice on my car windows for a few days in a row. It is so rare for such an early drop in temps here in Central/Gulf Florida. Usually we just have the windows up and still wearing shorts.

Yesterday, was like it was suppose to be! I had the windows open, the kids outside playing in shorts. Painting in the driveway. There was a very cool breeze but still warm. The night time was fabulous, the stuff you write songs about. And today is another fantastic day. Temps in the low 80's but not the hot humid stuff.

I needed this so badly. I have been in such a down and out mood lately. It suppose to be like this until the weekend, then cold for just a little while and warm temps coming back! YEAH!!!!

I know you northern folks are thinking "well of course there's ice on the windows and the heater is on....it's December!" or perhaps "and you call THAT cold????" But when you are accustomed to nice December temps, it really sets you back when it's not. We're just spoiled :)

Great day here in New England too. Rainy and windy BUT it's almost 60 out. I have my windows open and the heat off.

Wow. It was 14, when I woke up, with sun about to shine on all our new snow! Windows are definitely closed and heat is definitely on. I'm going to be putting on my winter jacket and boots, soon, to go to work! The radio said we've had 20 inches of snow already (and just since December 1st!) I'm so ready to have a break from snowstorms, for a while. I have no idea what the weather is, in the next few days, though. I have to look.

I'm soooooooo jealous! It is 18 here in Oklahoma. We actually had some freezing rain, and snow yesterday!! Brrrr.... and yuck. At least the sun is out today, and we are going to reach a balmy 38!! Enjoy the warm weather. I swear one of these days over Christmas, we are going to go somewhere warm, and sunny!

Yesterday Brendan wore shorts to school (it was 75 when he left for school}, then we had some really bad thunderstorms and the temp dropped. Today we woke up 34 degrees with sleet and possible snow later on. CRAZY!!!

Collete, I would still not be happy in the 60's. I wouldn't be miserable, but not happy. And YES, I would have the heater on for that. My house feels too cold when the natural temp in the house is 73. I need to boost it to 75 or 76 to be happy.

During summer we keep the AC set at 78, which most northerners would say is way too hot for inside AC. Many Floridians would complain about a 78 setting too, LOL. I just can't do cold.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:14 pm:

78 for the summer is too hot for me. LOL! I like my summertime AC at 76! During the winter, I like the house at 68. Any warmer than that, and I'm sweating if I try to do anything.

Dana, you better not move to WI, then! LOL! We are about 20 degrees right now, outside.

I'm a little chilly in the basement, but I made cranberry bread and when I was done making it, I loaded the dishwasher and hand-washed what didn't fit. I got too hot, so I took off my sweater. I didn't put it back on yet, since I was hot, but now I'm getting cold.

Dawn, I don't think moving will ever be an option for me! I get chills just thinking about it. I am such a true Floridian.

Somehow my sister was a snow bird at heart. She moved up to PA a few years back and was in heaven with all the cold weather and snow. She is in NC now. NOt at cold as PA, but they have already had snow this winter. She is very happy.

I can't imagine living in a place, where the seasons aren't so well-defined, though. LOL!

You've really lived in Florida, your whole life? Of course, I've lived in Wisconsin, my whole life, too.

By Dana on Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 11:39 am:

born and raised. But I did have 2 years that we moved out of state. Iowa when I was 2 and AZ the year after that, then back to FL again.

My only recall of snow was being in something very very constricting so I could only wabble to walk and the snow was up near my armpits. So even with the wabble I was still not able to move more than one step and I recall crying so hard because of it. That's it. That is my one and only snow memory. Well, I do have small glimpses of looking at the snow from an upstairs window. No wonder I hate cold winters LOL.
