I might be the next one in line for a washing machine

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: I might be the next one in line for a washing machine

Something smelled like it was burning in the basement. Before we had a chance to investigate what it was, the washing machine made a noise like it was trying to spin and couldn't, and then it died. The little surge protector thingie that we plug the cord into, before the outlet has a little burn mark on it. Ugh. We will be calling the store for a service call on Monday. It's old enough that it's probably not under warranty anymore. If it's the motor, I'm guessing we would just be better off getting a new one. With the service call, if he comes to the house and we decide to get a new one, the cost of the service call is taken off the new machine.

At 11:00pm, we are stuck with a load of Sarah's clothes and no time for a laundromat visit in the morning, to spin them off, to get them ready for the dryer. So, I know my best friend's hubby is still up, so we call him to ask if we can bring the sopping wet clothes over to their house, to use their washer to spin out the water. He said yes. We were there until 11:45pm and got served sodas and had time to chat. Probably good for hubby that we got some of his clothes washed today! LOL! I hope the repair people can come quickly, so we can decide if we need a new washer or not.

Front-loader would be nice, but not sure if there is money for that. It's an Amana top-loader, that went out tonight.

Poor Dawn.. :( Hopefully it is an easy fix and if not you can find a new one with in your price range. Do you have a place that sells scratch and dent products?

Well, I don't know if the sale is still on, but the T'giving sale @ Sears included a Kenmore HE set, for between 1/2 and 1/3 of what we paid for ours! Of course, we got the Elite model, and the current sale ones weren't that model, but still a GREAT deal.

Dawn, I just re-read my post, and my reference to our getting the Elite model didn't come across as I intended - I bought that particular model due to the steam features, which is something *I* wanted - that's why we bought the Elite model, not because we are snooty... LOL

We like buying out stuff at Bitter-Neumann anyway, because they deliver and set up, and haul the old one away. Sears might be cheaper, but you pay for delivery. It's a really good set up that we have with the appliance store.

I really didn't take that as your being snooty! LOL!

I'm just glad we had a place to go to, to get that excess water out of the clothes, so late at night.

The repairman came today and replaced the motor. I could hear it filling with water, while I changed clothes, to go to the clinic. The motor was $100 and about one hour of labor, so maybe $180 total. It's a good thing, because with the job thing in the balance, we just didn't need the expense of a new washing machine right now.
