Anyone cooking today?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Anyone cooking today?
By Vicki on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 09:56 am:

I have already baked a few chicken breasts and diced them up to add to the noodles tomorrow. I am cooking some broccoli and cauliflower now for a casserole and later today I will bake my chocolate chip bundt cake! I am trying to make tomorrow as stress free as I can. LOL I have all my cleaning done except scrubbing the floor and I will do that later tonight after all the cooking etc is done.

By Mrs_B on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 10:46 am:

I'm going to do all my chopping and sorting tonight and everything else in the morning.

Question- is it possible to peel my potatoes today without them getting discolored for tomorrows meal?

By Colette on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 10:54 am:

Made the chestnut stuffing, cheesecake is baking, house is spotless (except the kitchen), I will be making the rest of the pies, the mac and cheese (assembling, not baking) and the cranberry sauce today. Dd is begging me to make her grandmother's recipe for gingerbread cookies...hope I get a second wind for that.

yes, you can peel your potatoes, just put them in a pan with cold water in the fridge. I do that every year without a problem.

By Kernkate on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 11:35 am:

Made Banana Bread, cole slaw, rutabaga, and will do the stuffing tonight.
I have to work 12-6 today so I am trying to get ahead of the game.

By Enchens on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 11:55 am:

Melissa,

Ditto what Colette said about the potatoes. I've done it, too.

I've got the appetizers still defrosting in the fridge. I'll be preparing them this afternoon and then refrigerating for the haul to San Diego tonight.

Hey, Melissa, I'll wave when I pass by! :)

I am working on packing up the kids and cleaning in case folks want to come over after Thanksgiving. I know I won't have a chance to tidy up before they get here.

My cooking starts after we get back so I'm resting up!

By Cat on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 12:00 pm:

Nope. Not doing a thing. Besides making sure I have everything. It's just us tomorrow, so it'll be pretty easy. Dh is taking care of the turkey and my mom and I are taking care of everything else.

By Yjja123 on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 01:38 pm:

YES! I made:
Herbed mashed potoatoes
sweet potato mash
sausage stuffing
green bean casserole
cinnamon stewed apples
candy
cheese cake
pie

tomorrow the side dishes that I made ahead will go in 350 degree oven to reheat while turkey and pork loin are resting.

By Yjja123 on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 01:39 pm:

PS---Making the potatoes a day ahead is easy. The next day, just add a splash of milk, stir and put in oven for 30-45 minutes.

By Tayjar on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 01:44 pm:

A chef on the radio just shared a secret for making garlic mashed potatoes. Warm and blend the garlic in the milk first and then poor into the potatoes.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 01:50 pm:

Making my stuff tomorrow. Just stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and cutting up some veggies for a veggie tray.

People are bringing stuff and the turkey is hubby's job.

I'm about to make some cookies too.

By Mrs_B on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 02:12 pm:

Thanks, i'll add the potato peeling into the mix today. I'm making the antipasto salad ahead of time as well.

Hey Nancy! Be careful on the roads tonight. The whole county is under a flash food watch for the whole {{{gasp}}} 1 1/2 inch rains we could get. LOL

By Insaneusmcwife on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 05:24 pm:

Yep...
Deviled Eggs
Salami Rolls
Cheese Ball
Cupcakes

Thats all I'm making this year. I'm going to my grandma's in LA. We are expecting over 40 and thats not even the whole family.

So far so good. I haven't even been tempted to eat it, lol.

By Tunnia on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 06:35 pm:

I made two pumpkin pies, but I had to bake my princess pumpkin first so it took me quite a while to make them. I also made a blackberry pie, a big pan of cornbread for the cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole (just needs to be tossed in the oven to heat up tomorrow), and broccoli salad. Dh is making the collard greens and cornbread dressing tonight and then getting up early tomorrow morning to smoke the turkey.

By Kay on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 07:17 pm:

I baked my yams and they're in the fridge waiting to be candied tomorrow. I made a German chocolate cake for my husband, as his birthday is Saturday but we're celebrating tomorrow evening since the kids will all be here.

My husband is smoking our turkey, and I'll be making the spoonbread, yams, and broccoli. Tonight my oldest daughter is making a tortilla cheesecake, my husband will be making his chocolate chip cheesecake, and my DIL is bringing a chocolate pie.

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 07:21 pm:

Well, all the food that can be made today is done and ready to go. I decided to wait until tomorrow morning to scrub the floors. They are all swept and ready to be done though. I have all my platters and serving items out and ran through the dishwasher, the wine glasses are all cleaned and out, beverage area set up, dessert area set up.... tables and chairs all set up.... I think I am about as ready as I can be!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 - 11:10 pm:

I made an apple pie, and cooked the sweet potatoes, for a streusel sweet potato casserole! My sweet potatoes are all cooked and peeled, ready for tomorrow, too.

The apple pie is still in the oven. It needs streusel soon and then 25 minutes more baking time.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, November 27, 2008 - 12:12 pm:

The apple pie smelled so good last night and this morning, the sweet potato thingie is still making the house smell nice. I can't wait to eat now.
