Thanksgiving ideas?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Thanksgiving ideas?
By Enchens on Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 02:13 pm:

Anyone have an idea for an easy to prepare, good to travel appetizer? That is my task this Thanksgiving. I need an appetizer that isn't too much trouble to make and that I can take to San Diego and keep overnight before we actually arrive at the home where we will celebrate. We will have a fridge in our hotel room.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you, ladies.

A relish tray is always a hit and is really easy.

Pack cans or jars of whole, pitted black and green olives (you can get green olives stuffed with all kinds of things), and jars of different kinds of baby and/or sliced pickles (baby kosher dills, bread and butter, sweet gherkins, garlic, etc.). Also take a couple different flavors of those shelf-stable jars cheeses (pimento, English cheddar, etc) and a baggie of celery already washed and cut into proper lengths. Don't forget to bring along a divided or relish tray, can opener, saran wrap, and small knife to spread the cheese into the celery cavities. Assemble the relish tray either just before you leave the hotel or just after you arrive at your destination. It goes together in just a few minutes because, other than the celery, there is no prep work. The only thing that actually needs to be kept cold before assembly is the celery, though you can also chill the olives and pickles ahead of time if you like. Just don't chill the cheese or it will be harder to spread. HTH:)

Shrimp cocktail? You can buy the shrimp frozen, let them thaw overnight in the fridge.

or if there is a trader joes near you, they have TONS of ready made appetizers.
